Re: Birth dates for Scottish internationalists

^^ Brilliant Vasco, many thanks! As far as I can make out Hugh McHardy was born in Anderston on 22nd November 1860 and died in Paisley on 30th May 1912. However, he had a fairly tenuous connection to Partick Thistle - just one match on 8 May 1886 as a trialist, a friendly against Morton. He joined S...

Re: Birth dates for Scottish internationalists

John McCorkindale didn't play for the old Partick FC, having joined Thistle from Dalmuir Thistle in February 1888. And he only played once for Rangers as a guest, letting in eight goals in a friendly at Everton in 1890. You would dare stand against the great Litster? Haha, to be fair, there's not a...

Re: Scoring in consecutive SPL/top-flight matches

Delighted to hear about the life stats discovered for Evelyn Morrison; thanks indeed, cowdenbeather. South Africa missed a trick methinks; had they made the call they'd have been surefire winners at Uruguay '30! The bold Evelyn was prolific at Firhill too, with 19 in 20 between 1931 and 1932, a rati...

Re: Another Scotland international - J Gourlay x2

It never ceases to amaze me how often internet searches lead me back to this place!! Andy, The Jimmy Gourlay who scored Morton's 1922 Scottish Cup winning goal is listed on Wikipedia as being born on 11 September 1888 – with a source link to your piece: http://www.scottishsporthistory.com/sports-his...

Re: Scottish Cup

Presumably Connie McLaughlin and Gordon Duncan's YouTube round up was broadcast on Sportscene? According to the latter: "Colville Park made history on Saturday as they became the first amateur team to progress to the second round of the Scottish Cup" Misinform. Miseducate. Entertain.

Re: Old Line-Ups Required

...and 2 FA Cup final appearances. He certainly made his mark. Great to get that teamline Forrest, thank you. Was expecting to see Alec Hamilton in September 1884, the W. couldn't be a typo could it? I have one more QP problem from the early days: 03.05.1899 Queen's Park [a] L0-4 (Glasgow League - g...

Old Line-Ups Required

Concentrating on the period 'til 1907 at the moment. Any club specialists able or willing to supply their team's line ups for any of the following? Partick Thistle versus: Celtic 29.08.1888 Celtic [n] L0-1 (Exhibition Cup Semi Final) 21.12.1895 Celtic 'A' [h] L1-2 (Friendly) 09.04.1906 Celtic [h] L2...

Birth dates for Scottish internationalists

I wonder if any of you fine gentlemen could oblige with any birth / death details for the following seven? John Deakin (Johnstone Juniors, St Mirren, Partick Thistle, Clyde and Linfield) Robert W. Marshall (St Andrews, Partick, Partick Thistle, Rangers and Abercorn) born in Glasgow John McCorkindale...

Re: John Jackson - Scotland goalkeeper 1931-1935

There's a clear preference amongst Thistle historians for Johnny Jackson. I'm not sure I can recall a contemporary usage of Jakey or Jaikey, although I'm sure it must be there or we wouldn't see it quoted so often. Keep up the great work Gabe!

Re: PARK or STADIUM

Do what comes natural I say, and avoid the pitfalls of trying to follow the whimsical nature of club chairmen from down throughout the years. I avoid references to Park or Stadium as much as possible, and I think this thread shows that to be a good policy. Shawfield, Tynecastle, Firhill, Ibrox, Bogh...

Re: Springburn Football Clubs

Tough gig researching these obscure clubs Peter, hats off to ye! I was glad to get your snip on West End (Springburn) still playing in late 1879; I'm going to presume it's they who were indeed our opponents in November, and I think that's reasonable in the circumstances. An update since we last spok...
