Re: Celtic's Cult Heroes

That said, my only real gripe in this respect is the suggestion that Chris Sutton’s (not one of the twenty players included) notorious ‘lying-down’ barb directed at Dunfermline on the last day of the 2002-03 season was “not entirely without justification.” It was WHOLLY without justification IMHO. ...

According to the publishers the criteria is 'the ones who developed the most affinity with the Bhoys' incredible support; who were deified and came to stand for something more than mere footballers.' Though I did discover that Shunsuke Nakamura is neither Irish nor Catholic. That's a surprisingly b...

Probably for the same reason no major Spanish teams showed any interest in Cuellar last year, his fellow countrymen remain oblivious to his obvious charms. Maybe once 'Ugly Betty' starts getting shown on Spanish state telly interest in her footballing equivalent will revive. No surprise that McGeady...

Cheers nightfire.
The query was sparked off by a fellow fan advising that she'd been told that Larsson had scored over 50 hat-tricks, which I scoffed at. Not much scoffing where McGrory's concerned though!

I had (erroneously) thought that the 'Aye' had been dropped when a new badge was introduced early in the Souness era, maybe 87/8? Am sure the badge was restyled then.

The only senior Scottish player that springs to mind is John Thomson. I recently read an excellent book on early Scotland internationalist Dan Doyle (by Marie Rowan) and learned that an opponent of Doyle's died after an accidental challenge. His name was William Cropper and he played for Steveley in...

Isn't the current requirement ten games? I seem to recall reading something about Paul Hartley needing a few games to qualify. Be nice to know what the minimum requirement was through the years. I think you're spot on about PH mate, according to this link: http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/19042007/58/...

Scottish - its best you avoid what he wrote about Ayrshire (and especially his home town) in the first edition of CelticMinded! It was even worse than that!! Agree with the sentiments above. The antipathy among some Celtic fans to other teams has deteriorated into some clubs being labelled 'Hundee' ...

Hat-trick Heroes

What is the record no. of hat-tricks scored by a single player in Scottish football? I understand that Henrik Larsson scored 12 in his time at Celtic, anyone beat that previously?

Re: Johnny Doyle - Ayr United

Can anyone confirm that Doyle was sent off against Celtic whilst at Ayr United. I seem to recall a possible off the ball incident with a Celtic player Yep - he was sent off for punching Andy Lynch at Celtic Park, 1 of 4 red cards as an Ayr Utd player. One of them was for throwing his chewing gum at...
