Missed penalties for Scotland

While we bask in our perfect record in penalty shoot-outs recently, I was thinking of putting together an all-time list of national team penalty kicks (men's first team only). Those scored are easy enough to find, but those missed can be hidden deep in reports. To save me a bit of time, has anyone d...

Re: 1884 Scottish Cup winners

Thanks for clearing that up. Re Peter McCallum - did you ever resolve the confusion between him and Archie Rowan? I think I am right that, where initials were used, Rowan used the pseudonym AP or A McCallum. They both seem to be active at the same time, eg Aston Villa v QP in the 1884 FA Cup, 'McCal...

1884 Scottish Cup winners

A couple of wee questions about the 1884 Scottish Cup final, when Queen's Park were awarded the trophy after Vale of Leven refused to turn up. 1. Was there an actual trophy presentation? QP played a friendly against Third Lanark on the day of the final, and immediately claimed the trophy, but the SF...

Re: Tommy Younger

Actually, just got the date. He joined in September 1970, when Tom Hart took over the club and invited Tom Younger and Jimmy Kerr onto the board.

I think he joined the board in 1970, but I can't be more precise.

Re: Highland League - 1990s player appearances

Hi, and welcome to the forum. You are correct that the Ross County book doesn't have any detailed stats, and nor do any of the other Highland League histories. I'm afraid I can't think of any resource that would have this info from pre-internet days, other than trawling through local newspapers. How...

Scotland captain v England 1939

I was just checking Scotland captains and found a wee anomaly. Scotland captain v England in 1939 is named in most sources as Jimmy Dougal (inc RSSSF, London Hearts, wikipedia). But contemporary reports, and the match programme, say Bobby Baxter. Is it just one of those errors that have been perpetu...

Re: Junior International records

Earnock Rovers - John Miller He joined Maryhill in the summer of 1909, and on 29 July 1910 the Scottish Referee reports that the players retained by Maryhill include John Miller. He subsequently joined Cambuslang Rangers and there is a wee feature about him in the Scottish Referee on 20 November 1911.

Re: Junior International records

Mugiemoss - Andy Tough

P&J did a feature on Mugiemoss, 4 March 1947, which named all their old internationalists.

There is also a small piece about him in the Evening Express on 28 September 1968.

Pre-WW1 transfer and registration records

This resource was recently recommended to me, and it will probably interest a few people. Twenty years worth of (English) Football Association player transfer and registration records, 1894-1914, have been digitised and are freely available on the Chesterfield FC history website at https://www.cfchi...

Another one: Ormiston Primrose - Charles (Charley) Gray

See Dundee Evening Telegraph 12 March 1931, 'The men of Ormiston'. The article also notes that several players were signed from Edinburgh Emmet, who disbanded in 1930 (and had John Gray capped in 1929).
