Edinburgh Amateur Leagues 1960s and 1970s

I've had this query sent by Sandy MacKenzie. Can anyone help? I've tried, unsuccessfully as yet, to find information (let alone accessible information) relating to the Edinburgh Amateur football scene from around 1960. I've found medals in my brother's house from the early 1960's to the mid 1970's ...

Re: Oldest Surviving Scottish Internationalists

Does anyone know where LL died? Most obituaries make no reference, the Herald says in a nursing home, presumably somewhere around London or Kent.

Re: George Livingston

A couple of other queries about Livingston's career: Several accounts say he played for Dumbarton before joining Hearts in 1896, but I can find no record of this. As far as I can tell, he was with Artizan Thistle (a Dumbarton juvenile team), and had a brief trial with Parkhead juniors before going s...

Re: George Livingston

He was appointed manager of Dumbarton in January 1919 and stayed with them until summer of 1920 when he became trainer of Rangers. I don't think he had a connection with Clydebank.

Re: Central League tables

I don't think they are online, but I have them in the Athletic News Annuals.

I haven't checked them for accuracy!

With the death of Eric Caldow on 4 March, while the board was out of commission, the survivors' eleven has taken another hit.

New site administrator - Andy Mitchell

I'm happy to say that I have now taken on the role of administrator for the message board. Since the board was created in June 2005 by David Ross it has been a great success. Alan Brown took over as administrator about four years ago, and as he is no longer able to do so I volunteered to take it on....

Rose Reilly documentary

Good to see that Rose Reilly's story is being brought to the small screen this summer. Purple TV have put together a film of her footballing life and exploits, and it will be shown on BBC Alba in June - coinciding with the women's World Cup. Some interesting background from Margot McCuaig, the produ...

Re: Birmingham City v Irvine Meadow XI

To mark 60 years since the match, I've written a wee article about it: http://www.scottishsporthistory.com/spo ... birmingham

And thanks to newly digitised newspapers, the 'huge' crowd can be revealed as ... 3,200.

Re: Junior International records

One more name for the double international list (I think): Frank Murphy. Scotland cap with Celtic, v Netherlands in May 1938. Played for Scottish Junior League (v Irish Free State) and Scottish Junior Select (v Scottish Alliance) while with Croy Celtic in 1931/32. Played for Scotland v Irish Free St...

Re: new year 1977/78

Hibs v Clydebank - the match programme says the ref was A Ferguson (Clydebank). I presume the place name was a typo! Alan Ferguson was from Glasgow. Although I was at the game I can't help with goal times. Thistle v Rangers, according to the Rangers Football Companion: Frame (69); Johnstone (55), Sm...
