Arbraoth Mystery Re-visited

Update (as I'm sure you're all on tenterhooks on this one); a visit to an aunt got an unsolicited response that James Gibson Hope (my father) DID indeed play for Arbroath. So, the lesson is to trust the RECORDED history.

Team Photo, is this Ardeer Recreation c 1938?

I came across these pictures in an old family album, (featuring JG Hope), at first thought was QOS and Man City, but not QOS according to club, possibly Ardeer Recreation c 1938, can anyone confirm with any details?

Ah-ha, the Arbroath mystery! My father, James Gibson Hope indeed started with Ardeer Recreation, and was actually signed by Manchester City before WW2 interrupted football in 1939. he also played for QoS and Elgin City, but there is doubt over having ever played for Arbroath.
