Re: Cowdenbeath FC 1880-2020

I would agree with all of that. The photographic content is particularly good with many pictures I had never seen before. David has not mentioned the two other superb historical booklets produced by himself in the last year - commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Cowden's promotion season in 1969/70...

Re: McNairn

Regarding the 1960/1 McNairn, his first name was Jim and Ashfield signed him in 1960 from Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. He returned to Kirkintilloch Rob Roy the following season and then joined Gourock Juniors for 1963/4.

Re: Scotland v Wales Under-15 Schoolboy International 9 May 1959

Peter Rodrigues always used the anglicised spelling of his name. Long and successful pro career culminating in captaining Southampton to the FA Cup in 1976.

No idea whether his birth certificate says Rodriguez or Rodrigues. Perhaps the z comes from a copy taker making an assumption?

Re: Football League Review

There is a very detailed history of the Football League Review in this publication: Falkirk and Aberdeen certainly carried the Review for a short spell. I have a feeling that Partick maybe did so as well in 1968/9 - Arthur Dunc...

Re: Edinburgh Amateur Leagues 1960s and 1970s

In the late 60s and 70s the Evening News had an Amateurs feature one day a week - I think it was on a Thursday. It gave the results from the previous week, league tables and fixtures for the next week, plus a summary of news. Many teams told their players to check the Evening News on a Thursday to f...

Re: Drumlemble Juniors

The Campbeltown & District Junior League, sometimes known as the Argyll Junior League, varied ion size from four to nine teams. Most were from Campbeltown and its immediate surrounds but some were from further afield. The structure of the Scottish Junior Cup in the 1950s meant one place in the last ...

Very belated reply - I've found a reference to this game in a programme. The winning goal was scored by Gordon Scott of East fife.

Re: Sam Hastings (Hamilton Accies, Clyde and others)

The Hastings that I have in Ayrshire Juniors from around that time are;

Alex Hastings (ex Stranraer Partick), 1961-64 Ardeer Thistle, 66/7 Darvel
John (Ian) Hastings, Whitletts Vics 1964-70, later Auchinleck Talbot.

Nothing to suggest either played for Nithsdale Wanderers.

Re: Billy “Bongo” Smith MBE (Cumnock, Sheffield United)

Troon had a Smith in 1961/2 and 1962/3. I don't have a first name for him, I'm afraid.
