Re: 1980/81 season : Help required

The referee at the Airdrie-Rangers match was George Smith (Edinburgh). I recall from my perch in the centre stand that he declined the Diamonds a stonewall penalty just before half-time. Tommy Walker's equaliser is still a fond memeory...out first goal in the new-fangled Premier Division.

Latest Volume of Airdrieonians' History Now Available

Airdrieonians' historian, John Henderson, has just completed his third volume of the club's history. Entitled 'Excelsior Beginnings to Scottish League Membership: 1878/79 - 1893/94, I'm sure this one will appeal to all scholars of Scottish football's earliest days. As with his earlier books on the c...

Re: Multiple Goalkeepers

Airdrie fielded seven goalkeepers during 2013/14. Colin Stewart started the season then Andy Duncan took over after he was released. Duncan was ordered-off in a match versus Dunfermline so was replaced by Johnny Greir who made his one-and-only appearance, saving a penalty in the process. Scott Galla...

Re: Airdrie Schools Cup 1886

I don't have photograph but I think the trophy is currently at the museum at Hampden, so is there for all to see. If you have an interest in the competition, I have a complete list of winners going all the way back. The original competition ended after Airdrieonians left Broomfield in 1994 but it wa...

Re: Farewell East Stirlingshire

I was at Ochilview on Saturday and I felt heart sorry for the 'Shire fans at the end. Being an Airdrie fan, I know what this sort of loss feels like. I hope they don't fold. Their survival up to now is a tribute to perseverance. Like so many of us however, they found out that the loss of your ground...

Re: Albion Rovers - The Robin Marwick Collection

I went down to take a look at the exhibition before heading to New Broomfield last Saturday. It's all enclosed in one small area, so there's not a huge amount to see but there are some interesting items nonetheless. There's a telegram from Harry Lauder asking for 3 tickets to a Rovers' Scottish Cup ...

East Kilbride vs. Celtic Crowd?

Did anyone notice what the official attendance figure was at New Broomfield for yesterday's Scottish Cup tie? I couldn't find anything on the internet last night and didn't manage to pick up a paper today.

Some way short of a capacity crowd from what I could see on TV.

Re: Number of Players Used in a Season

Airdrieonians used 45 players in season 2000/01 - that was the season where Steve Archibald left us in the lurch in February, we had six weeks in abeyance, then Ian McCall pulled together a completely new side. We avoided relegation too...

Airdrieonians Through The Sixties

John Henderson, the Diamonds historian, has just published his new book. This one covers seasons 1960-61 to 1969-70 and provides a fully illustrated and detailed narrative account of the club's fortunes throughout that decade. A full statistics section for each season is included too. A4-sized and w...

Re: Derby v Scottish clubs

Och, I know - just like to get a 'dig' in whenever I can (it's the Airdrie way)...

Can't recall, but have they played anyone else competitively?

Re: Derby v Scottish clubs

Nobody's mentioned what was surely Derby County's biggest ever match against a Scottish club - the two-legged Texaco Cup final vs. Airdrieonians in 1972. Don't get me started on the second leg at the Baseball Ground where the Diamonds were ROBBED - Colin Boulton unpunished punch on Drew Jarvie has p...

Re: Airdrie Charity Cup - 1890

FAO - Nightfire (or anyone else whose interested) - John H has advised he has copies of reports on all the Carfin ties and would be happy to scan them through to you. If you pass me your private email address, I'll forward it on to him.
