Re: Part-time players with Scottish caps

I think Rough was the only full-time player at Thistle in the late 1970s although I don't imagine he was always full-time with them - not sure if he was still part-time when first capped in 1976

Part-time players with Scottish caps

Is anyone aware who the last part-time footballer was to be capped for Scotland? Johnny Doyle's single cap for Scotland was in December 1975 when he played part-time for Ayr United and worked during the week as a clerk at British Steel's Clydesdale works in Bellshill. Have there been any others capp...

Re: Airdrie Charity Cup - 1890

I think it must have been used for another purpose/tournament but it still has the original name engraved on it. Not sure how it came in to Summerlee's hands either.

That display was from earlier in the summer there - not sure how recently it had been changed.

Re: Airdrie Charity Cup - 1890

The Airdrie Charity Cup is on display at the Summerlee Heritage Museum in Coatbridge. http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/9710/srgz.jpg It features in this Hamilton Awfycomicals picture from 1910-11 (on the left). Not sure how the Accies got their hands on it as they never won the Charity Cup. A fant...

Changed days indeed what with record-breaking signings and USSR internationalists. Any particular reason why over 30,000 turned up for that reserve match in '97? An incredible figure. I think the Glasgow Cup final at Ibrox in 1986 (McCoist hat-trick?) also brought in a massive crowed redolent of ye ...

RENTON 1870s - 1890s

Does anyone know if there's an online site showing all games played, results and players for this famous old club?

After some more reflection - they were a poor side! You needed to reflect on that !?! Did you intially consider they'd compared well with the other teams you're going to put 8 past this season??? Great result though. Hitting 8 goals is very special, regardless of opposition and especially in...

I think the uncertainty stems from the fact that Patsy's parents were illiterate hence the story about the nameplate. Not uncommon for Irish immigrant names to be re-spelt into more accustomed versions when births/deaths/marriages being registered in Scotland in the 19th century. I think that Patsy'...

I think it's only available free to students (eh nightfire??? ) but not sure how to access it otherwise. Would be great to get access to the old reports - bring it on!

Clubs start talking about unfair this and the old firm are trying to fleece us again I think they need to take a good look in the mirror. They have fleeced Old Firm fans for years with inflated ticket prices. Too wrongs make a right then? Old firm fans are on a weak footing complaining about pricin...
