Oldest fixture in Scottish Football

Clyde's Promotion means we will renew acquaintance with Dumbarton next season. Dumbarton are our "oldest" opponents, we first met them competitively in the Scottish Cup on the 22nd November 1879, so this fixture has been running for 140 years. All the teams we previously met competitively no longer ...

Re: Three penalties

Came across the Second Division match between Albion Rovers and Clydebank on the 17th of March 1928 and thought it worthy of mention in here. Albion Rovers won 4-2, but Clydebank were awarded FOUR penalties, and according to the Glasgow Herald ALL of them were awarded for Rover's defender Cameron ha...

Re: New site administrator - Andy Mitchell

Well done to Andy for taking this on, it is still the premier information site for Scottish Football enquiries. I met Alan a couple of times at meetings he organised at the National Library in Edinburgh, so thanks also to Alan for keeping it going over these last few years.

Best Regards

Syd

Re: Tom Cranston Cap

Thanks Bluedragon. Changed days to think that a physical "cap" was awarded for a regional select game. Cheers Syd

Tom Cranston Cap

I am in touch with Tom Cranston's family. Tom, according to JL's disk, played for Ardrossan Celtic, Raith Rovers (with a loan spell at Third Lanark) and Clyde, before joining up and ultimately losing his life in the War in 1916. Anyway, they've sent me a picture of a "cap", Tom was awarded in 1912. ...

Re: Neil Hood

Neil Hood was top scorer for Queen of the South in 71/72, Hamilton in 72/73 and 73/74, and Clyde 75/76 - 77/78 and 79/80, meaning he has finished as a club's leading scorer over 7 different seasons.

How does this compare to others?

Cheers

I'm trying to ascertain how many seasons Neil Hood was top scorer during his years with QoS and Hamilton.

Re: Best League 'Streaks'

Apologies if this isn't the best place to post this, but Clyde are currently on a six-game run of consecutive league draws (a club record), the last four of which have been 0-0 (again a club record). Apparently if we draw 0-0 up at Elgin on Saturday we equal the "World Record". If I'm reading the ch...

Re: CLYDE 1, CELTIC 1

Thanks a million Craig, I've been searching the match reports for that match for years now between all the usual websites and in the Mitchell as well, but totally missed the pre-match articles. Great stuff, that game has been bugging me for years. I'd better go and do my email to LS now...

Re: CLYDE 1, CELTIC 1

Always glad to assist where I can! Anyway, I'll email you three of the four teams you need, the one I can't find is Clyde v PTFC on 20th May 1941. I can't remember if I've raised it on here before (I've certainly been in touch with "Partick Thistle" and he can't help either), so if anyone comes acro...

I've got the Clyde team as McCulloch (T), Walters and Haddock; Sim, Finlay and White; McCulloch (W), Currie, McLean, Thomson and Steel. Note Steel has no "e" on the end. Cheers

Clyde's "invincibility" on the 29th of April

I was doing my usual research for Clyde's Legends Lunch on Saturday past (to mark 500 games at Broadwood and the 50th anniversary of the last game of season 66/67), and came across a couple of quirky statistics about Clyde and the 29th of April - it appears we are almost invincible on that day! We'v...
