Re: OSWALD
Hi, According to the 1881 census, brothers James (13; messenger boy) and John (11; school) – both born Greenock – were living in the family home in Govan with parents Joseph & Mary. Which, by my reckoning, makes John the Junior... Afraid I'm now out of Scotland's People credits, but it should be eas...

Sorry to muddy these waters, but I can see where the 'Alexander' comes in... Entry from the government's Find a Will site: Dickson, William Alexander, of Prince of Wales Inn, Liverpool Road, Stoke-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, died 1 June 1910. Re: Alexander Wood
Thanks, SFA. I have to admit that this is an irksome one. Sandy's birth registration image on Scotland's People actually shows no middle name whatsoever. The widely-used 'Lochian' variant emanated from long-ago correspondence with Stateside soccer historian Colin Jose; and previous to your post I'd ...

Re: Info on Thomas Cleghorn (Leith Ath, Liverpool, Portsmout
You can discount the Stow-born Thomas: he was living with an uncle and working as a baker in Peeblesshire in 1891. Your Thomas was boarding in Darlington in 1891, claiming an age of 21 and merely noted as born 'in Scotland'. I was originally suspecting that he may have been chary about his age, as h...

Re: Durhamstown Rangers 1880s
According to a stray mention in an 1886 edition of the Edinburgh Evening News, it is/was "near Bathgate". Two other near contemporaneous mentions on the BNA site of other Durhamstown Rangers fixtures, but not the Hibs game.
