I wonder how many European games Dundee United have won since they beat Barcelona in 1987. I suspect it isn't that many. I never thought they would get through against AEK and whilst a draw on the night is respectable they're still oot. Steady on now, we did beat Borussia Mönchengladbach in the sem...

Manson v Addams that is.
On the same note, I did wonder why Radio Scotland commentary was proclaiming "deligth for the Adams family" at the final whistle yesterday .... I didn't think the Celtic fans would have been all that happy...

Fact. Plenty of players have played for both or played for one and managed the other but Chisholm is the first to manage both of them. Jim McLean had a coaching role at Dundee before becoming United manager. It is a bit of a surprising fact given that the two clubs have shared a good deal more pers...

Rovers used to open the terracing opposite the main stand if they were expecting a big crowd, I'm sure that's what they did for the Thistle cup game mentioned above. That was indeed the case - I was at the game in question. Oh how we laughed while watching the action unfold unhindered at crumbling ...

These cup crowds just look embarassing next to the clubs' respective league attendances. Bring back all home games on the season ticket! When Dundee United got to the UEFA Cup final in '87 all domestic cup and European ties were included, including the final. That's just how things were done in earl...

The last abandonment at Tannadice was against Dunfermline in October 1990. Got soaked standing outside the Glasgow Arabs' bus afterwards, as the driver obviously wasn't expecting us back so soon and had buggered off somewhere... The game created a little statistical oddity as Gijs Steinmann was maki...

Would Rudi Skácel's feat of scoring in his first seven games for Hearts be an SPL record then?

And the answer to the unasked question is: Yes, it IS excrement being Scottish. Oh well, there's always 2012, isn't there?

I was also interested to know that Burley was apparently manager of the year for his achievements with Ipswich in 2005, impressive considering he was managing Derby and Hearts that year....

Perhaps someone could point out to Broadfoot that the year he's looking for is 2001?

Which they could, if the will was there. Scottish football clubs are the world's worst for pleading poverty when it suits them and still finding the cash to waste on nobodies who get them humped by teams from Liechtenstein. But if the will is there to bring in foreign coaches to begin with, it woul...

( I also take lbb's point re Dodds. I was astonished to hear him claim that it was a case of 'we weren't as good as we thought we were a couple of years ago so we're not as bad as it looks now.' How many hammerings does it take before we accept these are not 'fluke' results? In any case Billy Dodds...

I wouldn't read too much into the Derby County mention - it could just have been a single match as a trialist. Things were a bit looser in those days, and players could turn out as a trialist for various clubs without signing a contract. Looks like it may well have been a trial. Clifford's last mat...

I was at this game and still shudder at the ignominy of being taunted by a busload of Stenhousemuir fans while trudging back into downtown Perth afterwards! Eamonn Bannon left the following summer to become manager at Falkirk and after that resumed playing at Spartans, so I'm fairly sure it's not hi...

Ferguson has had this coming a long while.... ever since he came up smelling of roses last time (!) he got stripped of the Rangers captaincy, when he undermined Le Guen and got away with it big time. Now he has provided both club and country with the perfect excuse to deal with the embarrassment of ...
