Welfare football

Does anyone have any sources for information on Welfare football? I am currently researching the short period when Ferranti Thistle were members of the Edinburgh & Leith Welfare FA, around 1950-1953. I've been trawling local newspapers but the games were publicised only intermittently. Where did it ...

Different grades of Juvenile football

Does anyone have a definitive answer on where the various grades of Juvenile football, as they were, began and ended? I've pretty much sussed that Underage refers to players under the age of 18, but the difference between First Class and Secondary don't appear as obvious? Did this refer to the quali...

Might be worth speaking to the Scottish Football Museum and asking them if they hold any copies.

Penalty shoot outs and the away goals rule are merely mechanisms to decide which team progresses to the next round/stage in the event of a drawn tie (single game and two legs).

They aren't strictly part of the matches and if they were we would need to record the scorers, which we don't.

I am told that the Livingston v Stranraer figure was 642. Any advance - or otherwise - on the figure of 800 for the Forfar match? Clyde's 700 in the first round turned out to be 688. Not heard any official figure for Forfar, but 800 seems to be an overestimate. It looked around the same as the Stra...

I've dug out the programme. It was Dundee v Rapid Bucharest, 2002/3, at Dens Park. I cannot remember the score, I'm afraid, and I was at the game. If it had been 30 years ago then I would have rattled off the score, scorers etc without hesitation, but six years ago - no chance! What was the date?

Dundee played a Romanian club in a pre-season friendly at Dens Park about five years ago - I think it was National or Dinamo Bucharest, or maybe Rapid? Half the crowd was made up of Romanian migrant workers. Found details of two Dundee friendlies in Romania...? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/scotl...

Thanks for that.

Apparently Hearts played FC Cluj, the current Romanian champions a couple of years ago in Austria, too.

Scottish teams v Romanian opposition in friendlies

Livi are playing Romanian side FC Uniera in a friendly at Almondvale on July 10.

Does anyone know of any other friendly games between Scottish and Romanian club sides?

All help appreciated!!!

I'm sure I read somewhere that Raleigh Gowrie, late of Spartans is heading up Stirling Uni's scholarship programme.

Chris played 105 times for Meadowbank, scoring 25 goals across all competitions.

He had two spells with Thistle and I am fairly sure that the first spell (1982-83) was on loan from Hearts.

The second was from 1984-1987 before he left for Berwick.

That'll be the TV gantry that's on the roof of one of the stands?

I'm afraid the suggestion that Almondvale doesn't hold 10,000 is utter tosh.

It has 10,006. The SPL sent someone to count them at the time we were promoted. No kidding.
