Re: Celtic & Rangers attendances inflated by up to 20,000 pe

It's not just the press. Fans from the OF have been using the same method to discredit the other side's claims. Totally agree. It just further illustrates how pathetic the tabloid press has become when it joins in with kindergarten “ma daddies bigger than you’re daddy” antics in an effort to sell t...

Re: Celtic & Rangers attendances inflated by up to 20,000 pe

A pretty pointless non-story that dominates the front page. There was nothing more news worthy than this for a front-page headline? Surely schum mistake! Still it typifies this particular newspapers extreme negativity when it comes to Scottish football. What a total waste of time and resources and a...

Re: Celtic running away with the league?

lbb Agreed. I don’t think anyone is disputing that the Scottish League is a one horse race. The same applies to Spain, England and a number of other leagues in Europe. Barcelona and Manchester United are also able to field “weakened” teams and get a result. The point I think that is trying to be mad...

Re: Celtic running away with the league?

I concur with what “Scottish” wrote in his opening post. One of the main problems football in Scotland suffers is in ingrained negativity of the media, especially certain sections of the Scottish press. (I will cover this aspect in a separate thread). As you say, only 8 points cover 10 teams and tha...

Re: The first coloured professional football player in Scotl

The March 1988 edition of "Scottish Football Today" carried an interesting article contrasting the polar difference of reaction between the introduction of Mark Walters and that of John Walker. It is particularly ironic that Walters experienced a torrid at Tynecastle whereas Walker was greeted with ...

Yes. Your figure for the East Fife crowd is probably correct. The only source I have gives 2,000 which is undoubtably one of these notorious "rounded" figures.

Rangers (2012)

As a statistician and historian of Scottish football, I am becoming increasingly frustrated by the continuing misconception that Rangers (1872) F.C. are the same club as The Rangers (2012) F.C. The fact is that Rangers (1872) were liquidated in July 2012 and a new club that bears almost the same nam...
