Birth dates for Scottish internationalists
I wonder if any of you fine gentlemen could oblige with any birth / death details for the following seven? John Deakin (Johnstone Juniors, St Mirren, Partick Thistle, Clyde and Linfield) Robert W. Marshall (St Andrews, Partick, Partick Thistle, Rangers and Abercorn) born in Glasgow John McCorkindale...

Re: John Jackson - Scotland goalkeeper 1931-1935
There's a clear preference amongst Thistle historians for Johnny Jackson. I'm not sure I can recall a contemporary usage of Jakey or Jaikey, although I'm sure it must be there or we wouldn't see it quoted so often. Keep up the great work Gabe!

Re: PARK or STADIUM
Do what comes natural I say, and avoid the pitfalls of trying to follow the whimsical nature of club chairmen from down throughout the years. I avoid references to Park or Stadium as much as possible, and I think this thread shows that to be a good policy. Shawfield, Tynecastle, Firhill, Ibrox, Bogh...

Re: Springburn Football Clubs
Tough gig researching these obscure clubs Peter, hats off to ye! I was glad to get your snip on West End (Springburn) still playing in late 1879; I'm going to presume it's they who were indeed our opponents in November, and I think that's reasonable in the circumstances. An update since we last spok...

Re: Scotland v Nigeria 2014
Hi Gabe,
I just spent several minutes having a poke around on this issue.
I would trust the sites which are geared towards Nigerian interests and they favour Odunlami as the surname (as do most database type sites actually).
If it was me, I would go with Odunlami as the surname.

Ah, the Partick Junior Cup, you're right, not quite as I had dreamt it!
Thanks Douglas.
Thanks Douglas.

Junior Cup Final 1884
Sat 5th April 1884 Partick Elm 2 Burnbank 1 (Scottish Junior Cup Semi Final) played at Jordanvale Park Am I right in thinking that the Junior Cup ran for several seasons before the SJFA took over in 1886-87? http://www.scottishfa.co.uk/sjfa/scottish_football.cfm?page=1741 My main question is, does a...

Re: East Fife Players
Matt Wilson, born Glasgow, died October 1974 in Canada.
I don't have that John Young in my database so, almost certainly, he never played in our first team.

Re: Nationalities
At Ibrox, just a few weeks ago, Thistle fielded 9 non-Scots in their starting line-up, a new club-record.
Have there been any fully non Scottish starting elevens in our domestic game?

Re: East Fife Players
I reckon Rab Bernard to have died in April 1958 (aged 73), meaning that he'd have been born sometime between April 1884 to April 1885 (place of birth Bo'ness).

Re: Multiple Goalkeepers
Probably the worst possible start. In Kilmarnock `keeper Archie Cree`s first match, Morton beat Killie 9-2 at Cappielow Park, League 21/8/1920. He only played another four 1st team games. In a January break friendly versus Lokeren a few months ago, Thistle were leading 2-1 at the break. Mark Ridger...

Re: Multiple Goalkeepers
8 'keepers have appeared for Thistle in 2016-17, although only 4 of these have been in competitive action. I'd be surprised if the Scottish record doesn't lie at Firhill. 10 players kept goal for Thistle in season 1987-88. They were: Andy Arroll; Archie MacLean; John Brough; Brian Scrimgeour; Tom Ca...

Re: Willie Paul of Partick Thistle, and Queen's Park
Fantastic Forrest, thanks indeed. Yes, those gentlemanly Corinthians weren't always thus. I recall an incident of 26th October 1895 at 2nd Hampden Park, when the home players, frustrated at trailing by one goal to five, successfully harangued the referee into ordering Thistle's Willie Paul (renowned...

Re: Willie Paul of Partick Thistle, and Queen's Park
Forrest, Niall notes that Willie played for Queen's Park at the end of season 1887-88 for their 21st birthday celebration. Any info on that per chance? Perhaps one for Shawfield Boy - Niall reports that Willie guested in a match for Clyde before the start of the season 1888-89. Any info on that one?...

Re: Attendances Queries
There are almost 500 instances, 1963 to 2007, where exact attendances in the Thistle history book differ from the exact attendances at London Hearts. The 70s to 90s are where they most condensed, in an equally prolific way. I have these isolated on the back burner for future attack, but whatever the...
