Re: David Taylor
I've just been reading that David was instrumental in expanding the European Championships from 16 teams to 24.
This was a man who got things done - he will be missed for sure.
What a fitting legacy it would be if Scotland were to go on and qualify for France 2016.

Re: Sandy Hall - Scotland's Olympic gold medal winner
You've done Sandy Hall proud there and quite rightly so.
Terrific work, not only is your blog a pleasure to read, it shines a light on stories untold, which takes a lot of effort.
Only problem is, I keep clicking to read another story, then before I know it I've lost an hour.
Ha ha, it's all good.

Re: Father & Sons for Scotland
Thanks indeed Andy, much appreciated. Interesting list, we have nine, the English have four. Don't know quite know what that means, but interesting... Currently compiling a list of all players who have commonly played for Thistle and Scotland. As always, I get side tracked...
What is the definitive list of Fathers & Sons who have played for Scotland?
So far I've got

Re: Thistle & Old Firm Attendances
Thanks very much for that, David.
Well well well, that's certainly an eye-opener.
I don't what surprises me most - that Jags' support topped Celtic or that the Celtic were once only the 7th best supported side in the country.

Thistle & Old Firm Attendances
Would like to know the closest we've got to Rangers or Celtic in average attendance in any given season. A pal of mine reckons that Thistle have, at least once, finished above Celtic in average attendance. Is this true?

Re: Cathkin Park - first match?
Of course, that Wikipedia article is only referring to the ground at Florida Avenue, titled as Hampden Park in 1884, then retitled in 1903 as New Cathkin Park when Thirds moved in and Queen's moved out. The ground soon settled on plain old Cathkin Park again before the decade was out. All press repo...

Re: Armageddon: latest update
I do like my quirky stats. The second to last is especially good - mentally stored for the next pub debate. Thankfully, I don't drink in the Louden Tavern.

Re: League Cup revamp
I actually don't think the League Cup needs much jiggery pokery to make it more attractive. And I think that asking teams to limit who they field only serves to underline the tournament. IMO it's only been devalued due to the "big guns" reshaping the thing so they get a couple of "easy" games and th...

Re: Minor Date Correction for 26th March 1928 -> 28th March
I would imagine these corrections are the tip of the iceberg. Same old story with the old errors being duplicated over and over. Having used the Statto data as one of my measuring tools for my own Thistle results database I can tell you categorically that they have exactly 5 incorrect results for Th...

Re: Lowland League
Look at all the trouble this Broomhill mob have caused and they’ve no’ even kicked a ba’ yet! I'm really not feeling much logic for regionalisation within the SPFL. Tier 5 backwards seems perfect to me. I've never heard any such calls from the existing "42" or their supporters. As for just cutting t...

Re: Lowland League
HJ, You outline your case very well. Who could possibly disagree with the fine vision that you outline so eloquently? However, we are where we are. The more powerful Junior sides don’t seem to be onboard with the vision at this time. Clearly, it’s going to take a fair bit of diplomacy, discussion an...

Re: Lowland League
Thanks for that HJ, very impressive. How come you’re no’ a Hibee by the way? Not that I've got anything against Berwick. On the contrary, loved our trips down to Shielfield back at the turn of the millennium. For reasons which are somehow lost in the misty legends of time, one of our lot managed to ...

Re: Lowland League
Actually, as we face up to the introduction of the play off next year it'd be interesting to see what the average attendances were for the Highland and Lowland League clubs this season. Does anyone know?
