Re: Willie Maley of Celtic (and Partick Thistle and Third La

Speaking to the Weekly News in 1938, Willie himself said: “I was at home when the deputation arrived. Tom was at Pollokshaws at the home of his wife-to-be. I had a long talk with the visitors. My father gave them his hearty support. I was asked to throw my lot in with Celtic. My reply was that, alth...

Re: John or Jacky or Johnny Peat

Neither! He signed himself as Jack Peat in 1950. Never made the break through at Firhill, with only one first team appearance in his 4-season spell, lining up at centre forward in a 3-1 Division A win at Starks Park on 8th October 1949. I believe he tried for Thirds after leaving Thistle at the end ...

Re: Scottish Referee on BNA

Kjell, Yes, categories and tags work well for generally grouping articles together, but I do think the likes of your match reports would be better off being placed in chronological order somewhere. But maybe that's just me (statto mentality!) - it's a very fine resource you're building, any which wa...

Re: Scottish Referee on BNA

Thanks for that Kjell. Yep, love Paint, so easy to use. Kind of glad to hear that I'm not missing a trick - there is no real easy fix, eh? I settled on the self-type option for smaller reports, with the source (Google, BNA, London Hearts) window opened on half my screen and Word opened in the other ...

Re: Scottish Referee on BNA

As a result of the other thread on this subject I put all my votes into this so I'm delighted to see this happening. 52 weeks worth are in today, a full set for 1891. Kjell, as an aside, I've been looking at your work on Play Up Liverpool and I'm very impressed by your ability to transcribe on such ...

Re: Willie Maley of Celtic (and Partick Thistle and Third La

Another Thistle internationalist? Would love it to be true! "Being English by birth" was a terrible start to the article in question, as decent as it was from thereon. It was Tom who was English-born, Willie was Irish. First thing that springs to mind, could Tom or Willie have been mis-identified in...

Re: Scottish record for consecutive League wins vs. same tea

Ponder no more; Celtic had 36 straight League wins over QP between 1905 and 1924.

Re: Scottish record for consecutive League wins vs. same tea

I have all the League results from 1890-91 to 1938-39 c/o John Litster's disc.

Does anyone have a convenient spreadsheet, with all the League results and match dates from 1946-47 onwards that they would be willing to send me?

Re: Presentation of Scottish First Division clubs 1927-28

^ Thanks Kjell, picked up on a couple of heights and weights for my Thistle records and I'm now following your blog. It's great to see the Athletic News building up, some great between-the-lines stuff in there. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all historians and statisticians out there. Hea...

Scottish record for consecutive League wins vs. same team?

Celtic are currently on a run of 21 consecutive wins over Partick Thistle in the League. This is easily Thistle's worst-ever run in the League against any team, now beyond our previous record (set against Rangers 1897-1906) by 8 games. Two questions: What is Celtic's longest run of consecutive wins ...

Re: Online Sources

National Library of Scotland have just added findmypast to their free online resources, see https://auth.nls.uk/eresources/browse/title/F I haven't explored fully yet but this could be incredibly helpful, especially as it includes BNA access . Alas, the BNA can only be navigated as normal, and not ...

Re: Springburn Football Clubs

Hi Peter, glad to see that info was of some use after all! Re the Cowlairs game, yes, Thistle were at Meadow Park playing Albion Rovers on the 12th and I knew about Cowlairs on the 19th, so this is why I forwarded to the 26th. Sorry I've no idea about the location of Burnbank Park, only a presumptio...

Re: Springburn Football Clubs

Aten, Probably no use to you whatsoever, but these are Thistle's results vs Springburn clubs. As you can see, 3 dates and a couple of venues are unclear. If you find any other matches or could help with my 3 problem games then that would be smashing. Cheeky? Aye, but ach well, if you don't ask you d...
