The fact is they are not technically qualifying rounds (not by name anyway) and Round 2 is not dissimilar to Round 1 of the FA Cup. As many of the clubs included are senior (Scottish League) clubs whose statistics, etc are covered as a matter of record in other competitions, then Rothmans really oug...

Many thanks for the quick response - unfortunately Rothmans seems to have decided not to cover the early rounds of the Scottish Cup in detail, which I feel is a mistake.

Stenhousemuir vs. Threave Rovers 2007-08

I am looking for the Stenhousemuir line-up vs. Threave Rovers, Scottish Cup R2, for the game played on 27 October 2007 (Stenhousemuir lost 1-0). Any help would be much appreciated.

Probably worth looking at other match reports of the time - particularly those for the clubs that have been mentioned (NNs, etc) to see if there is a player of the same name - it might offer some clues. Bell's Life, The Field and the Sportsman are probably all worth consulting. It should also be not...

Ray apparently took the money and ran! To be fair to Ray I don't think this was the case. He sold the company and was retained as a consultant by the new owners, although I doubt if he got more than a very minimal upfront payment. What happened next is that the majority of what remained of the libr...

Celtic Complete Record

I'm looking for someone who has a copy of the Celtic Complete Record who'd be kind enough to check some stats for me. Please PM me rather than reply on here. Thanks.

Mascots

I came across a report in the Sunday Post for 27 August 1939 with the heading 'Ruby is no more'. This referred to the demise of Ruby, the Kilmarnock mascot. Ruby, who was a sheep, (the name is taken from Rugby without the G) was apparently adopted by manager Hugh Spence as a lamb. There is no refere...

Online Newspaper Archives

The British Library has now opened up access to a range of newspaper archives, although unfortunately very little is on free access. The relevant link is:

It might be worth making contact with the Army FA at Aldershot. They have minute books for their emergency committees covering the war period and these give details of various military touring parties (although not the squads that toured India in the period 1944-46). There are certainly details of a...

Soccer History, Issue 22

Issue 22 of Soccer History Magazine is now available. The Scottish content includes a detailed account of the life of John Walker, the first black player to appear in the Scottish League; a statistical record of the East Regional League for the 1939-40 season, with appearances and scorers for each t...

There is a reference in the Coatbridge Express (3 July 1940) to the first penalty - the scorer was McLuggage of Royal Albert and the occasion was the Airdrie Charity Cup final against Airdrieonians at Mavisbank. The SFA had changed their rules on 2 June and the match (as L/stocking correctly says) w...

Dumbarton Football Society

I recently came across a reference to this organisation helping out with ground improvements at Boghead in the summer of 1939. Their title and the reference suggest they may have been a supporters' group whose members helped the club in practical ways (rather than just representing the supporters, l...
