Re: TABLE TOPPERS

Bumped.

End of September, seven games gone.

And when did we last get to October without either Rangers or Celtic registering an away league win?

Re: 2 Games at 1 Stadium on 1 Day

As an aside, I was looking back at the bid for the ill-fated bid to stage Euro 2008 in Scotland and Ireland. The proposed timetable included two matches at Ibrox and Parkhead, on the same day, with simultaneous kick-offs (as it was the final group matches).

Re: Tom Robertson

Very hard to say. He doesn't seem to appear in any team lines after the first month of the season. The Linlithgowshire Gazette has a weekly 'Bathgate Football Tit Bits' column, and although the OCR doesn't work very well I haven't found any references to him leaving. It doesn't help that there are o...

Re: 2 Games at 1 Stadium on 1 Day

It's not common, but I can think of a few examples of double headers at club level, such as the Tennent Caledonian Cup at Ibrox and the Skol Festival Trophy in Edinburgh. The Olympics in 2012 managed to fit in two double headers at Hampden within 24 hours! Two women's matches on Wednesday evening (U...

Re: Names of trialists 2017/18 season

Tricky, but if they impress enough to join the club they may be mentioned subsequently. Here is one of them: http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/sport/Scottish-League-Two-leaders-Stirling-Albion-set-to-provide-Annan-Athletic-with-a-tough-test-5703d0c9-b0ce-402a-ba7b-f133e09e8c78-ds Prior to last Saturday's...

Re: East Fife v Raith Rovers 1950s pic

Well the handbook was definitely issued in the summer of 1953, so either the caption is wrong or you are! I don't know the grounds well enough to say. I've also found the same photo in the Simmath Press 'Scottish League Yearbook' for 1953/54 but with the simple caption 'East Fife v Raith Rovers'. Th...

Re: East Fife v Raith Rovers 1950s pic

The photo is in the 1953/54 Raith Rovers handbook with the caption 'High jinks from Curran and Copland during the local derby against East Fife'.

So the jumping man is Ernie Copland, but I can't help with the one in the background.

Re: Henry Boyd - Tollcross, Third Lanark, Falkirk and others

A few suggestions, if you haven't already done so: Search for Harry as well as Henry. Find out his address in 1893/94 when he played in the Scottish Cup with Third Lanark - the Scottish Football Museum have the registers. With luck, this will then relate to things like census returns or marriage rec...

Re: Scottish Robins

Hello I'm researching Cheltenham Town FC. During the 1950/60's especially we had a regular influx of players coming from North of the Border mainly under the managerial reign of a Scottish manager by the name of Arch Anderson. I'm hoping that someone on here might be help me or at least point me in...

Re: Fife Cup

Slightly off topic, but there is a medal on ebay just now which I think is from the first Fife Junior Shield final in 1894. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-Antique-silver-gold-Early-Football-watch-fob-medal-Scottish-Edinburgh-1893/362387096704 Can anyone confirm if the W Pont engraved on the back wa...

Re: Patrick Gordon

A possible clue is that in the 1911 census he is named as Peter Gordon (and signs his name Peter). Same family as Patrick Gordon in 1901 - wife Caroline, children John, Wilhelmina. By then a dock labourer with 9 children, living in Melbourne Street, Liverpool.

Re: Junior International records

Yes, it's amazing that the birthdate of the captain of our most famous international team has been recorded wrongly for so long. I could find no record of him playing for Third Lanark. He joined Partick Thistle from Denny Hibs in October 1913 after a couple of trials with the reserve side, and went ...

Re: Junior International records

As a curious sideline to the two Jimmy McMullans from Denny, it seems they have been confused in more than one place. The Wembley Wizard's date of birth is usually given as 26 March 1895. However, that turns out to be wrong, although there was a James McMullan born in Denny on 26 March 1890 - and th...
