My cousin, Shay Brennan, was the first 'officially recognised' Irishman to be capped by the Republic through the parentage rule in 1965. He'd actually been born in Manchester. Obviously, there was no 'gentleman's agreement with us as we were not part of the Home nations !

One small item of info for you. In the 1947 game Swiss international William Steffen played for the rest. He actually played 15 games for Chelsea as an amateur that season, one of the first foreign players to play in the Football League after World War II.

Baker couldn't play for Scotland simply because the Home Associations tended to play things by the book and Ingerland asked first. His brother, Gerry, played for Canada.

I have, in my possession, a programme from 1964. It's Aberdeen v. Hibs and it's in what's called the Summer Cup. It's the Final. I've had this programme for years but have never been able to trace the game or competition. Any ideas ?
