Re: Commonwealth Games

Alcohol can be sold in stadia for events other than football - including rugby. Alcohol can even be sold in stadia at a football match if you're in a hospitality section. Basically, the alcohol ban only covers football fans sitting in the cheap seats. Everyone else can drink alcohol.

Re: Fifty Years Ago Today

In general though, yes, this should be avoided here at all costs. There are plenty of other sites and social media outlets in which spleens can be vented, as they will, with an increasing frenzy over the next eight weeks. I myself now take frequent breaks from Twitter after coming under incessant, ...

Re: Germany 7 Brazil 1

A deserved victory for Germany in the end. Argentina did have a wonderful opportunity for Higuain which he blew but I felt Germany were more likely as the game went on. Argentina weren't going to defend as badly as Brazil (and who didn't laugh when the Dutch scored in the first minute?) but Germany ...

Re: Germany 7 Brazil 1

But yes, the rules were clarified after the controversial Bellone kick for France v Brazil in 1986. The penalty ceases only when the motion of the ball caused by the kicker ceases. This seems a more satisfactory explanation. I've read claims that it's down to the referee when the penalty kick is 'f...

Més que un club A club that are meant to be banned from signing players sign a player who is meant to be banned from all football activity. The Barcelona website states he will be officially presented to the fans next week. As he can't set foot in the Nou Camp, it will be interesting to see how they...

Okay, it looks like Vlaar knocks the 'rebound' in with his shoulder but if the ball had spun back into the goal by itself would it have counted?

Re: Germany 7 Brazil 1

The new 'Special One' was undone to a large extent by his own tactics and it was pathetic to hear him even try to claim credit for his team's defeat by insisting he had been the one who had taught Romero how to save penalties at AZ Alkmaar. Naturally this begs the question that if he knew all about...

Re: Germany 7 Brazil 1

It was a shocking game of football. Both sides were negative and it's inexplicable when you think of the talent available. I don't think either of them deserved to be in the final. At least Holland could point to the Spain match as a highlight but Argentina haven't turned up in any game. It will be ...

Re: Germany 7 Brazil 1

I couldn't understand Gary Lineker's demeanour after the match either. Perhaps he feared a resurgence of anti-World Cup violence as ordinary Brazilians realised they'd spent all that money and still hadn't won the damn thing. The BBC's coverage after the match was odd where they cut to a couple of '...

Re: Germany 7 Brazil 1

I don't think Brazil have been able to say that for some time. The commentators were pushing a similar line of 'sad to see, painful, depressing' but I thought it was great. Quite why anyone should feel sorry for posers and whingers like David Luiz and Marcello is beyond me. Brazil had been lucky to ...

Re: Not Just Us

I noticed Ferencvaros playing the other night and thought of how far they'd fallen. You also look at famous clubs like Red Star Belgrade, banned from competing in Europe due to financial irregularities, and Auxerre, in Ligue 2 and heading back to where Guy Roux found them. Modern football has seen a...

Re: Suarez

I like the aspect of the punishment where he's not even allowed to enter a stadium. I don't really see how he or the Uruguayan FA can have any complaint. This was the latest in a string of offences by him and it occurred in a tournament that was developing into one of the finest World Cups in years....

Re: Suarez

FIFA have to ban him. They can't do anything else. It's such an odd behaviour. I've seen players prone to bad challenges or even using their fists but I've never known a player prone to using their teeth - even ones the size of Suarez's. Ironically, an international ban would probably increase his a...
