Gaps in the Library

A couple of years ago in the Cowdenbeath programme I wrote the following 'It set me thinking about obvious gaps in the Scottish football library. As far as games go, you have books on Celtic 7 Rangers 1 and Hearts 0 Hibs 7 – the obvious missing link is an account of Partick Thistle 4 Celtic 1 back i...

Re: Patrick Henderson

The only Pat Henderson I can recall came to Cowdenbeath from Arbroath and scored 5 goals in 16 League appearances for the Miners. Moved on then to Stranraer and subsequently played back in the juniors with Arthurlie and Petershill (played one game as a trialist for Hamilton). Nicknamed Maverick beca...

Re: Fife Cup

A short snappy tournament over a weekend needs to suit all 5 clubs - not easy when each of the 5 clubs have there own differing league and cup and friendly priorities plus pre-season training and under-20 squad or not situations. The best tournaments were held in the 80s and 90s and were pre-season ...

Re: Who would you classify as the big Scottish clubs?

Well there are no rules - it is down to whatever criteria you personally deem relevant as to who comes into this category. I would say the 'big clubs' are those who have won all 3 major honours - Rangers, Celtic, Hibs, Hearts, Dundee, Dundee United, Aberdeen, Motherwell and Kilmarnock.

Fife Cup

The AGM of the Fife FA was held on the evening of 28 April 2016 at Bayview. There were a number of topics debated including the future of the Association founded back in 1882. Re: Jimmy Allan Dundee Utd Mngr

From (next week's) Cowdenbeath Programme Thomas Allan was a miner when he married English girl Annie Russell in Cowdenbeath in 1893. However, he had left the pits and become the local insurance agent for the Prudential by the time their first son Robert was born in 1895. Their second son was born on...

A 71 Goal Union

Most people know that on 12th September 1885, Arbroath beat Aberdeen Bon Accord in the Scottish Cup by an all time record score of 36-0. Arbroath scored early and then often with John "Jocky" Petrie, their 18-year-old centre-forward, scoring a world record 13 goals (equalled in 2001 by Australian Ar...
