Re: Quickest hat-trick

Supposedly Tommy Ross got three in 1 min 30 seconds but no idea how that's verified as it wasn't filmed and in those days as now you didn't have goals timed to the second. Tommy Bryce got three goals in the 8th, 9th and 10th minutes against Arbroath (I was at the game and can physically confirm sinc...

Re: New Scotland strip

I’m not sure they do though because the home kit, as far as I can see, has been pretty much panelled by regular going Scotland fans due to the white arms. The pink kit is marmite, love it or hate it. I'm a "regular going Scotland fan", in terms of home games anyway, I haven't travelled to an away g...

Re: Football Event at National Library of Scotland

Ah the problems of organising such events in advance, 25% withdrawal already in the week ahead of it. Sounds good, not sure how I missed the thread in the first place and probably not of any direct use to me at this stage in what I'm trying to do but will be interesting none the less. I however will...

Re: Making Scottish Football Better

Thanks “Skyline Drifter” for the explanation of the development loan system and in particular in relation to the non-SPFL clubs. One question please. Did this work the other way? Let us say your club spots a good player in the Lowland League could you as the SPFL club sign him under this rule so th...

Re: Making Scottish Football Better

The SPFL already has the Development Loan rule which allows u20's to play 1st team on loan for another SPFL club whilst playing u20's football for their parent. Last season you could use that rule to do the same in the Juniors, South of Scotland League, Lowland League, etc but they've stopped that ...

Re: Making Scottish Football Better

I am confused by Bluedragon's reference to a "locally trained player". He defined "Club Trained" and "Association Trained" but then threw in this third term when proposing a rule. Is it supposed to be interchangeable with one of the other two, and if so, which one? Or is this a third different defin...

Re: Making Scottish Football Better

I would imagine nobody has cared enough to actually challenge the RFU on it legally. I'd think it would fail on a restraint of trade basis but I'm no lawyer. I don't know that much about rugby but would suspect that there is a lesser amount of imports around anyway? The English Premiership has a min...

Re: Why did pre-season friendlies start in 1966?

Pre-season friendlies may have been allowed in England from 1961, but they were not permitted in Scotland until 1966. The instances of Scottish clubs playing pe-season games outside Scotland before 1966 would have been classed as "Tours" which seem to have been permitted by the SFA. Competitive or ...

Re: Clubs Reforming

Bureaucratically Airdrie Utd are Clydebank, relocated and sartorially redesigned. Emotionally they are Airdrieonians resurrected. Are there any die-hard Bankies fans who still make the trip to Lanarkshire every other Saturday? I suspect not. Utd are even referred to as the Diamonds on occasion. Onl...

I presume he's referring to the first minute "tackle" on Nathan Oduwa of Rangers by Kieran Gibbons on Livingston in Tuesday's Petrofac Training Cup Q-F which was broadcast live on Alba.

Re: Hall of Fame

I think we're just fundamentally disagreed here Snuff. I haven't made any comment on the relative standards of women's football compared to mens, that was lbb. I don't think it's overly relevant to the debate to be honest. But given your own stated criteria of Hall of Fame recognising "exceptional a...

Re: Hall of Fame

Ibb - Since men and women cannot play in the same match, your argument about standards is spurious. The Scottish Women's team plays in exactly the same competitions - for their gender - as does the Scottish Men's team. Of course, the Men's game is of a higher standard, I would expect, if the Scotti...

Football in Dumfries. At the risk of (again) offending Skyline Drifter - aye, it might catch-on. You couldn't offend me Snuff. Well ok, you probably could if you tried hard enough. Long time no see. No assignments in Dumfries these days or just coming and going through the media entry without sayin...

Re: Why did pre-season friendlies start in 1966?

From 1966, clubs were allowed to play one public home game but within a couple of years this was extended to a two week window from the last Saturday in July prior to the League Cup kicking off on the second Saturday in August. The two week window was abolished sometime in the 1990s but I cannot re...
