More perplexing is what happens if Porto v Arsenal is a draw and CSKA Moscow win. All three would have 11 points (the highest number possible a team can be eliminatd with). Arsenal's head-to-head would be better than Porto's. Porto's better than CSKA. And CSKA's better than Arsenal. if the answer t...

Spawny gets or what? Did Van Der Saar have a serious save to make other than the free kick? Did Boruc? For all their undoubted quality football United barely threatened the Celtic goal either. Boruc's only serious save was the one when Saha clearly thought he was offside and flicked at the ball. Ap...

And somebody needs to tell Hugh McDonald in the As for that wee ginger whinger Lennon moaning again about 'bad luck' in the CL, what about a goal that came from a free kick for a foul that never was and big Balde staying on the pitch for 90 minutes. It doesn't get much luckier than that Celtic were...

Cheers I always wondered how it worked!

In effect then whilst in the event of a tie goal difference rewards the team that tends to win by more, goal average put more emphasis on defence as a lower denominator would help goal average more.

Re: Back to the Dark Ages?

According to John Litster's CD-Rom booklet, there will be no Scottish Football Review this year. I hope this doesn't mean we're returning to the days when we found it difficult [if not impossible] to research a player's details or find a non league senior team's potted history. I assume they have d...

Why did the ridiculous concept of using goal averages instead of goal differences become accepted? It must have been a nightmare for statisticians before the calculator! Could someone explain how "goal average" was calculated? I've always wondered what made it different? Reference to the Hearts and...

Though countered considerably by the fact that Livingston are nowhere near the sort of support St Mirren had. Livvy run at about -1600 compared to St Mirren but the difference at the other end is more striking. Brechin & Stranraer together are the rough equivalent of one Gretna home game and Thistl...

It's a strange one. Personally I tend to follow the legal point of view. In corporate terms and also in terms of continuous SFL membership, Airdrie United are merely a name change and location change of Clydebank. However, I keep an Excel file with all QoS results against other teams. Whilst I have ...

Hi there, new on this forum and just looking through some old topics out of interest. As a QoS fan this one caught my eye. I keep a lot of (modern) stats on QoS and I can assure you as said above that no Queen of the South player made their debut that day. Closest were Jamie Campbell and Stephen Wal...
