Billy Stevenson

I wondered if anyone had any information on the former Rangers and Liverpool player Billy Stevenson.

Cheers :D

You’re totally right regarding the minutes on the park as opposed to games appeared in. I suppose when minimum requirements were first established there were smaller squads, less substitutes allowed and fewer players took part over the course of a season. It’s perhaps something that needs to be revi...

Isn't the current requirement ten games? I seem to recall reading something about Paul Hartley needing a few games to qualify. Be nice to know what the minimum requirement was through the years. Here's a thread on most league wins from The Guardian's Knowledge column, though I don't think everything...

I stand corrected. Wikipedia has it and I wouldn't trust that as a solid source, but the Rangers website is usually reliable, though it does say "scored his debut goal in his debut Old Firm contest at Ibrox", so it possibly means it was his first goal in his first Old Firm match played at Ibrox. Whi...

Add to that Ian Durrant, who scored on his OF debut in a 3-0 win on 9 November 1985.

I’m sure someone will come on with a definitive list, but with a little bit of searching I’ve come up with a handful. Tore Andre Flo – November 2000 Michael Mols – November 2000 Ugo Ehiogu – March 2007 And Richard Gough who did it in both spells with Rangers in 1987 and November 1997. Ian Durrant an...

There was a no offside experiment in Jim Fallon’s testimonial in 1983 when Clydebank played Celtic. Celtic won 5-3. My recollection is that Bobby Williamson spent most of his time standing in the Celtic penalty box chatting to Peter Latchford. I’m pretty sure it was a FIFA sanctioned experiment. I h...

Memory didn't serve correctly. MacPherson actually said "Only twice in the history of the Scottish Cup, have goals been scored direct from a free kick." Though his research obviously wasn't as thorough as yours LEATHERSTOCKING. Dunno what The Scotsman's excuse is. Davie Provan's goal (and Archie's c...

From this article in The Scotsman http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/sport.cfm?id=582542005 With 14 minutes remaining, Davie Provan scored the first direct free-kick in Scottish Cup final history when he curled the ball beyond Hamish McAlpine after Eamonn Bannon had needlessly fouled Murdo MacLeod on t...

If memory serves I'm sure Archie MacPherson said prior to Davie Provan stepping up to take that kick that no one had ever scored direct from a free-kick in a Scottish Cup final before.
