I've dug out the programme. It was Dundee v Rapid Bucharest, 2002/3, at Dens Park. I cannot remember the score, I'm afraid, and I was at the game. If it had been 30 years ago then I would have rattled off the score, scorers etc without hesitation, but six years ago - no chance!

Dundee played a Romanian club in a pre-season friendly at Dens Park about five years ago - I think it was National or Dinamo Bucharest, or maybe Rapid? Half the crowd was made up of Romanian migrant workers.

Leith Athletic were formed in 1996. Ainslie Park was where you went if you lived in North Edinburgh and didn't exactly trouble the marker of the 11+ exam. Many of its students regarded it as a 'badge of honour' to be Ainslie Parkers. Regarding Stirling University, I presume that as EOSL members they...

From a 1994 Halkirk programme: The present North Caledonian Cup competition is the direct descendant of the North of Scotland Junior Cup which started in 1888 and the original trophy is the one the teams still play for. The League Championshir began in 1896 with Nelson (8 titles) and Citadel (5 titl...

The Scottish Players Union had a glossy magazine, either monthly or quarterly, in the late 1940s. I used to have a few but I sold them some time ago. If I recall correctly, the most recent one I had was from 1949. The content was a mixture of historical articles ( I remember a lengthy feature on the...

Returning to 'I Zingari' . . . Volume 1 of Fabian and Green's Association Football (1960) has a section on the I Zingari Association - a north of England equivalent of the Amateur Football Alliance. Founded in 1895, and still going strong in 1960. They translate 'I Zingari' as 'Wanderers'. The close...

Cowdenbeath's 1981/2 deduction was for fielding an ineligible player on May 1st - possibly Colin McIntosh? Decision might not have been taken until after the end of the season. I suspect many published league tables for that season are wrong - Rothmans does not show the points deduction.

The Toulon tournament was barely reported at the time - but these games really should be included in players appearance records. France Football from the time of the tournament will have the line-ups. There are also 3 Under 23 matches from the 70s that never appear in the records - v Germany Amateur...
