Re: Heriot-Watt University FC

They played at Paties Road prior to moving to Riccarton.

They played in the local amateurs before they joined the EOSL.

Only published source I have is George Campbell's Scottish University Football which covers then then 8 Scotish Univerisities.

Re: Edinburgh University FC & Spartans FC - Old Ground

I believe that the University ground at Corstorphine was what is now called Union Park, currently home to Royal High Corstorphine Rugby and Cricket clubs.

Re: Why did pre-season friendlies start in 1966?

Pre-season friendlies may have been allowed in England from 1961, but they were not permitted in Scotland until 1966. The instances of Scottish clubs playing pe-season games outside Scotland before 1966 would have been classed as "Tours" which seem to have been permitted by the SFA. Competitive or q...

Re: Why did pre-season friendlies start in 1966?

No, I mean early 1990s - I've checked back and it seems to have been from 92/3 that the rule was relaxed.

The ruling applied to SFA-sanctioned friendlies within Scotland. I'd be surprised if Queens played any public friendlies before the last Saturday in July during the 1970s or 1980s.

Re: Why did pre-season friendlies start in 1966?

Changing times. Clubs wanted to be able to play a "glamour" game pre-season to bring in some cash. There were some very big crowds for games against English clubs. Prior to 1966 clubs could play games but had to make them "competitive" - eg the Paisley Charity Cup. Otherwise they were restricted to ...

Re: TAXI INTERNATIONALS

I remember watching a Miners International as part of the Miners Gala in 1977. Scotland v England, effectively an East Juniors Select v a Northern League Select, played in Holyrood Park, just behind the Palace. Scotland won 7-0 but I think the visitors may have indlulged in some pre-match hospitality.

Re: Scottish Football Almanac 2014/15

Yes, it is almost finished. It will go to the printers by July 3rd, to be on sale by the end of July.

I've expanded it with coverage of women's football plus player / squad lists for Highland League / Lowland League and Junior clubs.

I'll post on here when they go on sale.

Re: Pyramid Playoff 2015

Just back from Brora v Montrose game.

Spoke to a Brora official who said crowd at Edinburgh City game was "around 350".

My head count for today's game v Montrose came to 465. A Brora supporter confirmed there were "far more" today than last week.
