Chris Dickson - Scottish Youth International

This would have been around 1990-1992. Does anyone have any details? He was a Brentford youth team player at the time.

Thanks scottish - I checked this and have checked some of the Patrick Hagan's papers on the ancestry.co.uk website. One of "this" Patrick Hagan's children is listed as being born in 1908 so I hope he would listed himself as a footballer on the child's birth certificate, but as you may know, that's n...

Patrick Hagan

I am conducting research on Brentford's Edwardian footballers and have come across a note in Emms and Wells A-Z Book of Scottish Players that Patrick Hagan died in WW1 on 14 July 1916. Can anyone verify this was the same Patrick Hagan? I have his career was as follows: Hibernian 5 May 1905; Brentfor...

Re: Other forums

Just a general query - can anyone recommend any other serious football history forums? I'm not about to desert - honest! But sometimes I want to tap into discussions in other countries, particularly England. And even other sports. I'm aware of Tony's Non-League Forum in England, but it is mainly ab...

Re: A player named Adshead

I've come across a player who apparently made 2 appearances for Hibs in 1917/1918 by the name of Adshead - he's referenced in Emms. His names listed in the evening times, but there's no mention of him anywher else I've checked - Litsters disk/all footballers.com / Lugton trilogy. Is it a name that ...

I would treat this website, its content and organisation with extreme caution. They seem to have "Tony Matthews" standards of research.

The decision is a disaster and they have only just conceded to having a reading room at Boston Spa.

Thousands of newspapers have not been microfilmed which leaves the collection worse off for those that need to access it.

Tax purposes amongst other things. The League would have kept a record but the club were not obliged to tell the press, which of course for us historians is a disaster.

I agree with you on both counts. I wonder who was the first Englishman to play for Queen's Park?

Edgar Kail at Queen's Park

Just recently I've seen a reference that the Dulwich Hamlet and England international foward Edgar Kail guested for Queen's Park at one time. Can anyone either confirm this and/or tell me when it was? Thanking you in anticipation.

I contacted a trusted source about this and he came back with the following: The Glasgow Herald 7 March 1870: Gordon's club N.N.'s, not N.N.s, Kilburn, which I think would be like writing Arsenal, London. As someone on the blog says, it's possible Gordon wasn't Scottish: the Herald says he came in a...

George Sands, Sports Editor of Brentford's local newspaper The Middlesex Chronicle, only missed 2 first team games from 1935 to 1976 and always said the best he ever saw the Bees play was in the defeat to Hearts.
