Re: League games on Fridays - TV Trend

Dunfermline's home match against St. Johnstone was played on Wednesday, 16 April 1986. I take it that you've just listed current clubs, as I've also got Dunfermline as playing the following away fixtures on a Friday - Third Lanark (4-0) on 3 May 1963 (the evening before the cup final), and Meadowban...

Re: 50 Years since Beeching's report, Impact on SF ?

Forfar's station was closed as a result of the Beeching cuts. Their nearest is now fourteen miles away in Arbroath - a football special wouldn't be a lot of good in their case.

Re: Scottish Footballers Roll of Honour

Okay. I've not checked these players on Litster's disc, I'm just going by what was reported in the newspaper at the time, though one or two definitely played in the SFL. John Frail - Private, 1st Black Watch, killed in action 9 May 1915. Played for Lochgelly United, Hibs (a loan spell I think), Dunf...

Re: Scottish Footballers Roll of Honour

Alan, are you looking for Scottish League players alone or those who played in others such as the Northern or Central Leagues?

Re: RONALD K. MacDONALD

As you noted, the issue is confused by Dunfermline having two players of the same name and the newspapers' refusal to spell each of them correctly. I'm pretty sure that Ron MacDonald's two appearances were a 1-2 win at Kilmarnock on 30 October and a 1-1 draw at Arbroath on 6 November. To further mud...

Re: Duncan McKay Ronaldson

It was Bury who held his registration, all his subsequent clubs prior to Dunfermline were in the Southern League. Due to his experience he was nicknamed 'Daddy' at East End Park - he was considered the 'brains' of the forward line, 'one of the most artistic and clever players' to have played for the...

Re: Jerry Kelly, Ayr & Everton

I should probably have added that it was his great granddaughter who contacted Dunfermline Athletic asking for information, so I would imagine she knows that kind of detail.
I didn't though, and it saves me asking her, so thanks for that.

Jerry Kelly, Ayr & Everton

I'm looking for additional information about a player by the name of Jeremiah (Jerry) Kelly. Born in Hamilton in 1900, he played for Blantyre Victoria, Ayr United, Everton and Carlisle United up until 1931. From then until 1934 he played for a club called Dublin Dolphins, spending the summer of 1933...

Thanks for that, I was beginning to think that it hadn't been played.
I still wouldn't mind a few details, so if anyone's got access to the Courier archive.....

Re: 1979/80 League Cup Semi-Final

With or without tickets, there was nothing to stop supporters of either club wandering wherever they liked on the terracing before the fence went up, so I'm beginning to think that it was erected for this particular match.

1979/80 League Cup Semi-Final

East End Park staged the semi-final between Dundee United and Hamilton Accies on 24 November 1979. Would the Scottish League have made it a prerequisite that Dunfermline erect a segregation fence on the main terracing? I'd always thought that the fence went up some months later but it turns out that...

Fife FA Centenary 1982

Does anyone have any details on a match at East End Park on 19 May 1982 between a Fife Select and the Scottish Semi-Professional team? As well as being part of the preparations for the Four Nations tournament in Aberdeen, it was supposed to celebrate the centenary of the Fife FA. There's nothing in ...
