I would actually like to see some clubs simply refuse to sell any tickets to the Old Firm. In the case of Hibs and Hearts at least I actually think gates might increase as a result of having no away fans there. This is a debate which has been going on since Methuselah's first day at primary school ...

League football was suspended when war broke out but fairly quickly returned because it was considered a boost for public morale and allowed some semblance of normality to return to everyday life. Although the league titles are not regarded as official, football remained popular, remained competiti...

It's worth mentioning that the story on that site starts with now infamous call from a Hearts fan to talksport. Poor jambo . . .  “Caller: I'm a Hearts fan and, fair enough, Stephen Pressley gets a game for Scotland but what I can't understand is why [national coach Berti] Vogts never p...

Did a quick google search and found the plausible-sounding explanation below. This seems to suggest that because a person can become an Irish citizen through their grandparentage, they are eligible to play for the Irish Rep team side without ever having set foot in the country. Different naturalisat...

In Woods & Campbell's 'Dreams and Songs to Sing' they did more extensive research into Celtic FC's origins than their original work 'The Glory and the Dream' and identified at least 2 early juvenile teams in the Glasgow area called Celtic. They conclude that Brother Walfrid, who promoted that Celtic...

Hooded Men - playing in disguise?

My faither swears that in the early 60s a number of Scottish players including Jimmy Johnstone and some Third Lanark players played an illegal game in Ireland in hoods in order to avoid detection by the SFA? Can anyone shed light on this? The old man is adamant that pictures of players appeared in t...
