Re: Commonwealth Games

I've got a DVD of Little Jimmy Dickens singing the original version of "May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose". Went to the boxing at SECC yesterday and was appalled at the level of security involved. It was the same as the airport. I have two metal knees and a metal hip which obviously set the ...

Re: Rothman's Football Yearbooks anyone?

Alan, For a minute you had my hopes up. I was glad to take the SFL reviews off your hands, but I'm only one shy of a full collection of Rothman's Football Yearbooks. The one I'm missing is 1971-72, having just purchased a hardback edition of 1970-71. The irony of the latter is that I was given this ...

Re: Scotland vs Denmark 1-0 11th November 1970

I clearly remember the barracking that Davie Hay got before the manager finally took him off in favour of Sandy Jardine whose name had been chanted continuously by the BlueNoses from early in the game.

Re: Name of commentator

Since the game was played in the north-east, could it have been Frank Gilfeather?

Re: Statto needs helps

The game at Tynecastle was later in the season than I remembered, but the second leg of the semi against Motherwell had been postponed so many times that this would make sense. First leg n December, second leg in March?? Incidentally, whilst Sneddon may have been christened John and was Ian to the p...

Re: Alexander Meek Andrews

The only Alexander Meek Andrews whose birth is registered in Scotland was born on 13th July 1884, and a similar named person died, aged 71, in 1955. I can only assume that they are one and the same.

Re: Hampden's 100,000+ Crowd Records

I was always under the impression that the last 100,000 crowd was for the Scotland v. Czechoslovakia match in September 1973.

Re: TV Quiz Show

Retakes happened in my year as well, but this was due to several errors by the question compiler, one Alex Dowdells. After my third or fourth interruption to call into question the veracity of an answer, Richard Park eventually turned to him and told him to get his act together, as Park, by now, aft...

Re: TV Quiz Show

In 1979 I was in the Federation of Hearts Supporters Clubs team which reached the final of STV quiz. We lost to Stenhousemuir Cricket Club, after humping Giffnock North in the semi-final and a host of other clubs in earlier rounds. The final was recorded on the day before the Scottish Cup final and ...

England v. Scotland Junior International c.1902

I'm looking for info on this match, as a work colleague's grandfather allegedly played in the game. Scotland line-up would probably be enough. Game was at Villa Park, I believe.

Unfortunately I've very little on Junior football myself.
