I attended the latter match, played on a Sunday. 63, 000 (?) spectators and a John Duncan hat-trick (?).

Central League Decider

Can anyone explain why Maryhill Harp were involved in the 1960-61 Central League decider against Greenock, who had defeated Cambuslang Rangers to be involved, when the league table suggests that Johnstone Burgh should have participated, having attained a better goal average? The Burgh P22 W14 D6 L2 ...

Re: James B Niven and James Fraser of Moffat - updated detai

Same guy was, as has been stated, son of George, a labourer, and Mary (nee Harkness). He died on 25th March 1945 in Glasgow. He's listed as being a railway labourer and was the widower of Isabella Stenhouse, whom he had married in Edinburgh in October 1891.

Re: John Rundell

Doesn't look like they were brothers, so most likely cousins. 7 John Rundells born in Larkhall between 1892 and 1905, but no obvious parental connection.

Incidentally, George's date of birth is 22nd July 1893, not 2nd. He had Hamilton as his middle name.

Could the flag not be that of the first mentioned team - St Ninian's Thistle?

Re: Indoor 5 a side tournaments

I attended the 1969 tournament at Paisley Ice Rink as a 14 year old, and I still have the programme, autographed by Denis Connaghan and others. This was the stage in my life when I decided to extend my horizons on the football front, but I do not remember there being any further such tournaments, as...

Looks like he didn't die in Scotland, as there is no record. He could, of course, still be alive at the age of 103!

Re: A Great Read

I did much the same 10 days ago in Byres Road. £23 for 8 books and a couple of calendars. One of the books was the one mentioned by Snuff, but I had to pay all of £3 for it. I've just started it, but the one thing that has struck me about Potter's prose in the first half dozen pages is his continual...
