Re: Results not being posted

I hae to agree with Bluedragon; the SJFA East Region's website is far superior to the West Region's. I don't know the guys who run that region, or the website, but, from what I know of the West Region, it could be simply that in the East they have superior officials. In the old days of separate Ayr...

Results not being posted

Those posters complaining about Scottish Cup details not being posted, have little to moan about. Forty-eight hours have now passed since Glenafton Athletic beat Auchinleck Talbot in the Sectional League Cup final, at Portland Park, Troon - and the result still is not up on the SJFA West Region web...

Re: Fife Cup Final, 1968

Well - that's me telt. Thanks David. I note your mention of Hughie Taylor, a man who was a terrific encouragement to me in my efforts to make my way in sports journalism. I owe Hughie, Harry Reid, "Dan" Archer and "Stop Press" (Bill Aitken) of the Cumnock Chronicle a great deal. My late father was ...

Re: Fife Cup Final, 1968

Fife being a foreign country to me, I hadn't been paying much attention to this thread, prior to reading it this morning. I noticed Scottish's mention of the Ayrshire Cup Final of 1965, at Rugby Park. This was, as David rightly mentioned, held in the midweek after that wonderful Killie win at Tynec...

Re: the FIFA vice-presidency

lbb - I accept the Guardian article does not specifically suggest Ferdinand is being "parachuted-in", but, that's my reading of it. If I am wrong, apologies. To even suggest a current player should be a candidate for such an office, strikes me as being nothing less than a populist move. He has no e...

the FIFA vice-presidency

Obviously, since we voted No to independence, on the basis of believing a pack of lies - we Scots are not the sharpest tools in the box. But, how stupid are the (English) FA when it comes to footballing diplomacy? I see, from this morning's Guardian, that moves are afoot to parachute Rio Ferdinand ...

Re: TAXI INTERNATIONALS

These "occupation" internationals are great things. Not many people know, for instance, that the VERY LAST match on the old Wembley was between the Scottish and English Football Writers XIs. This was held the day before the demolishers moved in, and what was a good, old-fashioned kicking match was ...

Re: Scottish Cup crowd

We can all have the odd bitch about coverage of football, but, fair play to Sports Editor Colin Leslie and The Scotsman's Sports Desk team. They had small match reports on every First round game across the foot of pages six and seven of Monday's Scotsman sports section, plus all the scores and scor...

Willie Finlay RIP

Donald Walker, the former Sports Editor of The Scotsman, and an East Fife fanatic, has done an excellent obituary for that paper on former East fife and Clyde centre-half Willie Finlay, who has died, aged 88. Finlay was centre-half in the great Philp, Finlay and Aitken half-back line during the Fif...
