Re: More dates of birth and death

Hi Adam McCall was my Grandfather, he lived with my parents in Sanquhar for many years. He was born in Riccarton in Kilmarnock. Up till recently a cup bearing his name was being played for by Queen of the South junior team. This cup in fact was presented to him during his playing time with Bristol ...

Re: More dates of birth and death

I have been fairly reliably informed that Adam McColl should be written Adam McCall. As a result, I am not sure how much of his personal information that I had before is still correct. Perhaps he was born in Glasgow in 1886; I see, however, that there were Adam McCalls born in Ayrshire in both 1885 ...

Re: Pennant and Russell

On a similar theme, does anyone know more on the career of Bill Fenner? He was born 1.7.1889 and played for Wrexham and (1910-12) Bury. Does anyone have his date of death or further career details, please?

Re: Pennant and Russell

Thank you. Much appreciated. This is going towards a biography of Bristol Rovers' Harold Jarman - I'll post details on here when it's due for publication. Thank you for your help.

Pennant and Russell

First, an apology for posting this here - I don't know of a Scottish connection, but I am relying on the excellent knowledge base of users of this website. Does ahyone have, please first names for Pennant (reserve goalkeeper with southend United, 1960-61) and Russell (reserve centre-half with Readin...

Re: Shirt numbers

Looks like the English League record was broken this afternoon at Elland Road. Leeds U 5 Huddersfield T 1.
Ross McCormack (wearing 44) scored three, Jimmy Kebe (38) and Alex Mowatt (36) once each. I make that 206.

Re: Thomas McInnes and Thomas McInnes

Sorry for my confusing reply. The only thing I was trying to say was that the copy I have seen of The Scotsman lists McInnes (Clyde) in the line-up, not McInnes (Notts County).

Re: Thomas McInnes and Thomas McInnes

Tom McInnes the internationalist appears to have scored eight goals in 18 League games with Thirds. However, the line-up for the Football Lge v Scottish Lge game suggests it was McInnes of Clyde who played - and he is definitely a different player, because he appeared for Clyde on the day Tom was pl...

Re: Thomas McInnes and Thomas McInnes

Thank you. I had certainly confused the two. Does anyone here have an accurate date in 1893 when the internationalist joined Thirds and how many games/goals he managed in1893-94, please? He scored nine goals in 19 Southern League games with Bristol Rovers, including a hat-trick v Gravesend United in...

In 1938-39, King's Park won 6-5 at home to Forfar Athletic. Walker scored five for King's Park and Reid scored five for Forfar.

Donnie Gillies

Just wondering if anyone on here has an accurate date when Morton signed Donnie Gillies from Inverness Clachnacuddin, please? All I have is 1971. I believe he went on to score 23 goals in 45+2 Scottish League games before venturing bravely south of the border. Any help gratefully received.

Re: Shirt numbers

Leeds won 4-2 yesterday, Ross McCormack wearing number 44 and scoring all four of their goals. Rather pathetic though it may be in comparison with Scotland's record, I suspect this may be a record in the English League. Prior to squad numbers, there is no chance of this 176 being bettered, given tha...
