Re: Old Age [sic]

I think I'm correct in saying Neil McBain is the only player who appeared in the English/Scottish Leagues before World War One and after World War Two.

Re: Scottish Rovers

Returning to this thread, does anyone here know anything of the whereabouts from about 1926 of Alexander Crichton? He was born in Bellshill, 12.6.1899, was apparently a Scottish junior international whilst with Bantyre Victoria, 1923-24 and was back in Scotland by 1926. Is he the man who was at East...

Re: Players who were men of the cloth

I did some research into this for a Bristol Rovers article a year or two back and discovered that, whilst two Parsons and a Beadle have played for us, Rovers have been opposed in League football by ten Bishops (one of whom was sent off), as well as four Abbotts, an Archdeacon, a Cannon, three Deacon...

Re: More dates of birth and death

... and another question. Sorry about all of these. Bill Culley (Killie, Cup Final 1920 and all that) was the second of five sons of James and Mary Culley of Kilwinning. Given his middle name, was there a James Culley who married as Mary Neill in Kilwinning in approx 1888? Does anyone have access to...

Re: St Johnstone, 1922-23

Sorry, lots of questions .... On a similar theme, what was the first name of Salisbury, who played for Partick Thistle in 1923-24?

Jimmy Smith, Dumbarton

Jimmy Smith's illustrious career at Ayr Utd is well-documented. Does anyone have a record, please, of his games at Dumbarton, 1937-39 or at least a list of any hat-tricks he scored in those years? By my records, he played 49 times in the League for Dumbarton, scoring 36 goals.

Re: More dates of birth and death

Many thanks. I have also seen this place and date for James Dargue elsewhere - where is Townshead? Townhead is, ahem, a douce central Glasgow 'arondissement': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Townhead It is also the home of the Royal Infirmary, where Mr Dargue died. Thank you. That makes sense now!

Re: More dates of birth and death

More dates of birth and death

Just hoping someone might have a few rogue dates of birth and death (or more accurate ones), or perhaps access to scotlandspeople or similar sites. I would be very grateful for dates of any of these, who all played Southern League football for Bristol Rovers, 1899-1920. Sorry to add such a long list...

Patrick Boyle

Does anyone here have access to the Aberdeen book published by Breedon? - Patrick Boyle scored two League goals for Aberdeen - when were they and who against, please? I have a provisional date of birth of 1885/86 for Boyle and a career of: Hibernian; 16.11.04 Arthurlie [12,0]; May 1905 Port Glasgow ...
