Re: Nationalities

You can only imagine that either Celtic or Rangers listed entire non-Scots starting line-ups in the Martin O'Neill and Dick Advocaat days. I'm fairly sure Barry Ferguson was the only Scot playing regularly for Rangers around that time. In those days, admittedly when Rangers were signing players that...

Re: Negative goal difference in League One

Certainly an unusual occurrence I'd have thought, Andy. Also, Brechin City could conceivably be promoted despite having lost more games than they won!

The Pyramid

Some very interesting developments over the past few weeks in regard to the Scottish pyramid system. While both Kelty Hearts and Bo'ness United appear to making serious noises about the pyramid structure, neither have categorically stated that they would move from the junior ranks. Both appear keen ...

Re: Player wages through history

Did such a scenario not directly lead to formation of the Intermediate grade as junior clubs felt exposed to the ravages of the cherry-picking SFL and EFL clubs?

Re: NLS Visit 2016?

Unfortunately my wife has organised a wee trip to the borders for us that weekend so I'm back out again.
I hope those going enjoy their day.

Re: Glasgow Hibernian FC

Hibernian Park was sited on Rutherglen Road near Oatlands.
It was taken over by Thistle FC and renamed Braehead Park and staged Scottish League football briefly.

Re: Old Scottish football ground

Got to say that I'm still inclined to suggest Powderhall. Looking at the few aerial pictures of Marine Gardens I'm not sure it was as tight to the pitch as the picture seems to suggest. Also, I don't see any grandstand at Marine Gardens. Leith Athletic were at Powderhall immediately prior to moving ...

Re: Old Scottish football ground

I've got a few photos from the Falkirk Herald archive from around this time and see no evidence of lights that would've suggested a greyhound track. Falkirk certainly had greyhound racing at Brockville but I'm not seeing anything in your picture to suggest its Ochilview. There appears to be the end ...

Re: Old Scottish football ground

I'm still puzzled by this picture. I don't doubt that Stenhousemuir operated as a greyhound venue for a short spell but I'm not recognising Ochilview. Also, why would East Fife not be wearing their traditional gold and black stripes? I'm not disputing your answer, merely a bit curious. PS...could it...

Re: BARCA 7, CELTIC 0

The only thing I'd counter that example with HJ, is Rangers heavy loss was actually in the Semi-Final of the European Cup. The idea of such advancement being achieved by any Scottish clubs in the future is frankly fanciful. I've read many accounts from that time which suggest Eintracht Frankfurt wou...

Re: BARCA 7, CELTIC 0

Regardless of the opposition, and in this instance we're talking of a truly super team boasting a legendary frontline, it still made for grim viewing. There was no determination, heart or desire in the Celtic team. They appeared beaten before the game even started. In all honesty, following desperat...

Re: Whifflet Rovers

I think the season at Meadow Park may well have finished them as only a Gartcosh Welfare club appears thereafter.
As for the book, in true Star Wars fashion, I hope to have Volume 2, the clubs A-E, in print for Christmas.

Re: Whifflet Rovers

Good spot Brian. I did a bit more searching in the Kirky News and found that Gartcosh Rovers Amateurs rented Albion Rovers' old Meadow Park in 1933-34 to thereby attain full SFA membership. The SFA insisted that due to the distance that the club were moving the Gartcosh title would not be acceptable...
