Willie & Tom Maley

I'm trying to establish whether the Maley brothers were actually playing FOR Cathcart FC prior to them joining Celtic. Having looked at a number of publications about the formation of Celtic, I'm struggling to find anything to clarify whether they were players of the club or merely lived in Cathcart...

35,000 is listed in my four sources Gabe.
These are : Rothmans Year Book, Scotland - The Complete Record, World Cup History - Argentina 78 & Spain 82, and Nations of Europe Volume 2.
No exact figure anywhere, and no 45,000.

Lowest SFL crowd

Snippet from the online Falkirk Herald which suggests the 32 crowd figure claimed for the East Stirlingshire v Leith Athletic match on 15 April 1939 wasn't actually correct.

Re: League Reform 1945 to 1967 (16-16)

I remember reading that the 1955 proposals for three divisions included a Grangemouth club created by the merging of junior duo Grange Rovers and Forth Rangers.
As the port was at the forefront of the future oil industry boom, the thought was that a league club could survive.

Women's World Cup

Not normally an area I'd be drawn to, but, on a visit to the Falkirk Council Archives at Callendar House the other day, the archivist drew my attention to a Falkirk Mail article from 1939. At a time when the FAs had banned competitive football for women, the local paper reported that Glasgow and Edi...

Scottish Cup 2015-16

An interesting development in the Scottish Cup structure now sees the winner of the Scottish Amateur Cup granted access to the Prelimenary Round of the senior competition. Kirkintilloch's Harestanes Amateurs will be the first club to appear under the new policy. Yet more interesting and exciting dev...

Re: Introductions?

No surprise, Name Alan McCabe Researching Scottish FA Cup, Qualifying Cup and other SFA tournaments. Been researching this longer than I care to imagine and hope to finally publish around 1,600 page 4 volumes by the end of the decade (only 17 years late!). A sprightly 48 years old but told by my wif...

Re: William Watson and James McKee, 'foreigners' capped in 1

In a world of almost limitless information, it's probably impossible to safeguard your work completely. Copyright infringements are difficult to prove and costly to pursue. I work on the assumption that if I put my workings in book form then the buggers will at least have to do some considerable pla...

Re: Picture - Queen's Park 1900?

From the limited photos available, I'm not convinced it's Feethams. Despite being adjacent to the cricket ground, the football venue appears to have been quite small and cramped by comparison. What few pictures I've seen appear to indicate a traditional rectangular ground with no evident space for a...

Re: Picture - Queen's Park 1900?

Also noticed that the players are wearing an assortment of socks. Could be a representative team possibly, where the club socks of the player's actual club are worn? Alternatively, such lack of uniformity to suggest an amateur, junior or works team perhaps? Still not sure about the ground but have a...

Re: Picture - Queen's Park 1900?

No idea about which club it is but it certainly isn't from 1900. Looks more like the late 20s, early 30s to me.
I see what appear to be lights around the perimeter which suggests it's at one of the grounds which staged greyhound racing. Not Cathkin nor Lesser Hampden. Shawfield possibly?
