Trialists

Before the 1973-74 edition of Rothmans, trialists were listed separately as unnamed players. We all know what Rothmans was like, especially in the early days, but why were trialists unnamed before then? Surely these players were named on the sheets the clubs sent to the Scottish League offices?

Sorry, my mistake. According to the SFA Website, Joe Jordan did NOT play in the above game, but it was his era.

Debutant Scotland managers

Sky have twice said the last Scotland manager to win in his first match was Tommy Docherty against Portugal in 1971. Surely it was Jock Stein aganst Norway in 1978. The first time it was said was during the match against Georgia, but the second time it was mentioned was today by Joe Jordan, who actu...

Chick Young talks a load of rubbish most of the time, but I agree with him on this subject. Why couldn't Celtic have played yesterday at 12.30 and save today for the Cup Final? I notice they are playing on 31st March to make way for the Edinburgh derby on the Sunday to be shown on Setanta, so why di...

I THINK the League Cup in either 1972 or 1973 or both were played under the 18 yard offside rule.

I'm sure there is film of the Wembley Wizards on the video 'Scotland the Brave', which was on sale in the late 80s/early 90s.

Back to the Dark Ages?

According to John Litster's CD-Rom booklet, there will be no Scottish Football Review this year. I hope this doesn't mean we're returning to the days when we found it difficult [if not impossible] to research a player's details or find a non league senior team's potted history. I assume they have di...

I think St.Mirren [then a second division team] beat Rangers in the 1972-73 League Cup, albeit it was a Sectional match and Rangers qualified anyway. I seem to remember Ally MacLeod [not THAT one] scored 3 or 4 goals in that game. Can anyone confirm?
