Re: SFA National Youth Competition (1946-1975)

The 1966 & 1967 finals where played at Hampden Park as curtain raisers to the Brazil & USSR Internationals. The 1966 game was meant to be played the week before as the curtain raiser to the Portugal game but heavy rain that day forced the SFA to put the game back a week. The team lineups are in all ...

Re: Glasgow Charity Cup venues

Another thing I didn't know about the Charity Cup was ,you were allowed to play guest players, I came accross this not long ago reserching season 1955/56 local cups & friendlies and without trawling through my records Third Lanark won it with Tommy Docherty and IIRC another English League player pos...

Re: Last 30,000 plus non old firm attendance?

Apart from as you say an Edinburgh Derby aside I think you might have to go back even further than the 70s . Even in the Scottish Cup when in the days that did bring out the fairweather fans I still cant think of a 30k plus crowd. Without going into a long search (and its nearly midnight here in New...

January 1971, Cowdenbeath

The Saturday following the Ibrox Disaster the Cowdenbeath V Rangers match was postponed, I presume the reserve fixture was also cancelled, and I have read somewhere in the not to distant past that The Blue Brazilians arranged a match at Central Park for that day against East Kilbride Thistle. obviou...

Re: Two matches in Dundee on the same day

There were 33000 approx at Dens Park & 9000 approx at Tannadice although the YouTube screening of the United, Hearts game suggests a bigger crowd than that, perhaps a regular at Tannadice in they days might have more of an idea.

Re: Two matches in Dundee on the same day

Seventeenth of February 1968 ,Scottish Cup 2nd round, Dundee United played Hearts & Dundee played Rangers. I have both match programmes the Tannadice one, states a 2.00PM Kick Off but the Dens Park Programme doesnt state a time, so I presume it was the usual 3.00PM Kick Off . Just looked inside the ...

Re: Hamish McAlpine

Peter Rundo the programme dealer is also the programme editor of the Dundee United match programme and has served on testomonial committees for Arab players , so I think that would be a good source. He has a webb site for his programme business.

Re: Jimmy Hill

Scottish, mentioned Clyde in his clubs finishing below 10th place, now they were an enigma, promotion, cup win, relegation, promotion, cup win relegation, promotion and then a couple of seasons later finishing 3rd to the team that won the European Cup in the league championships, part time at that a...

Re: Jimmy Hill

We havnt done as badly in recent years as far as cup football went like Queen of the South, Ross County and Gretna all making our FA cup final and Livingston winning the league cup. In the 60s we only had Morton reaching the League cup final of smaller clubs (I hope I havnt offended any Morton fans ...

The more I read this , the more input from everyone all with different views on a 12 /12 set up the more I see a 16 club league 6 league cup ties = 36 games dead simple.
