Re: Morton v Third Lanark 1961

Thanks, I seemed to have missed that when I checked the newspaper, probably because 2 other Thirds teams took to the field that day ,I didnt expect a third (excuse the pun), so I stopped searching after I saw the reserve score.

Re: Scottish Robins

Bobby McCool signed for Third Lanark from Ormiston Primrose an East of Scotland Junior side that was disbanded in 1962 and reformed again in 1980. In another thread, Leatherstockings said he was at Cathkin for three years so this is in the late fifties to early sixties time frame and I think he made...

Morton v Third Lanark 1961

I have a match programme for a friendly dated 18th March 1961 at Cappielow. The editorial says We would like to thank George Young for arranging this game at short notice as Mortons fixture with Queens Park was postponed because of an Amateur International that day. The half time score section in th...

Re: 1967 February 20th Monday, Millwall v Dundee

The game was cancelled. I looked in the Dundee V Thistle programme from the 25th Feb. and it says this . Our trip south last weekend ended rather in unfortunate fashion when our game against Millwall was washed out (literally). It goes on to say that although they spent from Friday evening to Monday...

Re: 'home' team in Scottish cup finals

I remember reading somewhere in an old Football Annual ,that in 1956 Hearts sent their trainer to Hampden about 3 or 4 hours earlier than the team to nab the home dressing room, and had all the kit set out when the teams arrived.

Re: Teams who have changed colours quite often

Of course I made a mistake when I said about Rangers & St Mirren programmes being portrait when in fact I should have said landscape.

Re: Teams who have changed colours quite often

On the subject of pin stripe strips. The first time I ever saw Morton play in 1964/65 season they had them long before the Eighties fad so forever in my mind that is their strip as is Motherwells broad chest band, Clydebanks diagonal band, Queens Park & Celtics hoops, Airdries Diamond and Hibs White...

Re: Teams who have changed colours quite often

Thanks Hiblog for putting me correct. Rangers progammes for 77/78 season were portrait, as was St Mirren's in 1979/80 and many English clubs around that time, always liked the Hibs, Hearts & Morton programmes of the 60s as they gave you info that the newspapers didnt ,and I liked the 2nd X1 scribble...

Re: Teams who have changed colours quite often

I hated the pin stripe fad of the Eighties and on the subject of changes I also hated the fad of pocket size programmes opening out longways instead of the usual way,( if I have explained that clearly ) and also hated programmes that were square , and the mega size programmes they now have for Inter...

Re: Called up but not capped

John McHugh the Clyde Half Back in the 1960s picked for Glasgow Select X1s in the Glasgow Charity Cup and in the Scotland squad for the games against Portugal & Brazil in 1966. He was a relieving teacher at my School around then, a very modest gentleman.

Re: So, farewell then, Rangers

Here is a scenario that could happen, that Rangers, in fact any Scottish club could face in the near future deciding what league they will be playing in. If foreign Associations feel , because ofthe UK Olympic team, should only have one representation at international level then a complete re-organi...
