Jim Leighton would undoubtedly have smashed Dalglish's record had Andy Goram not come along midway through his international career. With the increase in WC & EC qualifying games these days, the opportunity is there for Dalglish's record to be broken. Our lack of talent at the top level of English football and our own top-two may also result in a more static national team selection with non Old Firm clubs contributing heavily to the future squads. If young Craig Gordon can maintain the kind of form that his breathtaking late save against Motherwell demonstrated, then the Hearts goalkeeper could be a serious contender for a long & fruitful international career.

Unles there's some Lithuanian/Peruvian/Martian goalie somewhere Romanov likes the look of.
As many European trophies as the Old Firm combined

Part of the problem we have now is that by failing to qualify for the final stages we miss out on 3 or 4 warm up games and the 3 games in the Final stages. That takes away the potential or 7 Caps.

Also clubs are increasingly not releasing the top players for friendlies (or the player gets injured).

CG is a possibility but it does mean him staying at the top for about 10 years.

True, but if we'd stuck with Berti it would have made no difference. As long as there were about a couple of gazillion friendlies a season somebody would have made 100 sooner or later. Especially as the SFA count games like the Hong Kong one as full internationals.

Dalglish is safe enough. Ten caps a year over ten years to get to 100. That not only requires a player to be consistent and injury-free but immune from Giggs syndrome - that crushing medical condition which paralyses players around 72 hours before friendly games and doesn't wear off until shortly before kick-off in the next club match
