GEORGE MILLER R.I.P.

Post by jimmythepost » Fri Jan 09, 2009 9:33 am

Great tribute to George by Sir Alex Ferguson at the funeral service. Many old Dunfermline and Falkirk players in attendance.
Geordie was quite a character and some of the stories were hilarious.Scottish football has lost quite a character.
My own memoies of George were as an inspirational captain and a wily old fox marshalling the defence. His performance against Coventry in a Texaco Cup tie at Highfield Road earned a standing ovation from both sets of fans.
He was real captain material as he proved at Dunfermline Hearts and Falkirk.
Sympathies to his three daughters and son.

I mind seeing a unique George Miller goal for Falkirk on the telly years ago - think it was the latter stages of the League Cup against Hibs at Brockville, early 1970's.

He cleared from his own half with a huge up and under rugby type punt - the Hibs defenders assumed offside would be given but the Bairns forwards made no attempt to go for the ball - big George kept running and connected with his own "pass" and went forward to score !!!
