Luckiest Cup Winners ever?

Post by HibeeJibee » Fri Sep 28, 2012 9:45 am

I was looking through some King Cup results on the SFHA earlier, and has there ever been a luckier winner of a cup than Bathgate in 1903-04?

They got a bye in R1.

In R2, they were 2-0 down to West Calder but mists came down, it was declared a friendly, then abandoned after fighting broke-out. They won the replay 4-0.

In the Semi-Final they lost 1-0 at home to Broxburn Shamrock, but Broxburn had used an ineligible player. They won the replay 3-0.

In the Final replay they were losing 1-0 to Bo'ness, but it was abandoned, and after at least 2 further draws they apparently won the cup!!

HJ - get on the programme. Are we Scots not taught from our grandfather's knee, the luckiest cup winners ever were the team in red shirts which won the 1966 World Cup?

In addition to that I would add any occasion on which the winner is one of the OF and/or the losing finalist is Kilmarnock.

Although they didnt win the European Cup, what about Inter Milans run to the final in 1971/72 season.

Alloa won the 65-66 Stirlingshire cup without scoring a single goal, they got a Bye in the first round ,drew 0-0 in the semis and went through on toss of a coin, they were then to meet Stirling Albion in the final who scratched so the cup was awarded to Alloa.
