Full format now published by SFA: http://www.scottishfa.co.uk/scottish_fa ... tegoryID=1

It gets more complicated every year!

They will have to do something about the format for next season. If 6 or more additional clubs get licensed there would be more clubs wanting into R1 than spaces, even before you considered unlicensed clubs and qualifiers. (And 6 or more isn't unlikely - Cove and Vale of Leithen is 2; then you've got 8 other SFA members outwith HL & LL almost all of whom are known to be working towards it; then some others like Duns).

Even this season they would have needed 1 'Extra Preliminary' in July to get 13 down to 12 had Cove and Vale got theirs in time despite Auchinleck doing the double and Wigtown winning SOS league.

I don't see why 4 Championship clubs should go direct to R4, or 4 HL/LL to R2, or licensed clubs below HL/LL to R1, for example.

The SFA`s website is wrong; it isn`t the "first time ever the Cup will start with two preliminary rounds...", the 1891-92 to 1894-95 & 1964-65 to 1969-70 seasons started with preliminary rounds, the 19thC years had four, the 20thC ones with two.

Their media department haven't a clue nowadays, it's embarrassing.

From another article, headlining SFA website:

Edinburgh side Lothian Thistle HV and Dumfriesshire’s Wigtown & Bladnoch have also benefitted from the changes that will see the East of Scotland, South of Scotland and Amateur Cup champions enter at the qualifying stages from this year onwards.

Firstly, Wigtown are a member and would have participated regardless. They have actually kept a potential qualifier out by winning the South, as the space is not passed down to runners-up etc.

Secondly, these leagues have had qualifying spaces since 2007!! That in the South has been used once and that in the East twice before this season... that in the East has been used 3 times in the last 4 seasons... and Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale qualified in exactly the same way for the season just ended - then actually went on to reach R1!!

Bring back Andy Mitchell...

EDIT: And to add insult to injury, Wigtown isn't in Dumfriesshire. It's in... hold the press... Wigtownshire!!

Has anyone been able to obtain crowd figures so far? there seems to be a dearth of attendance figures being announced, again.

Very disappointing that more attendance figures aren't being made available. The SFA needs to get on that. For the prelims I can understand it but for the first round proper we should have full archival data.
