Predictions for Season 2015/16

Post by Alan Brown » Mon Jun 22, 2015 10:50 pm

As the draws for the qualifying rounds of next seasons European competitions were made today I thought it would be a good idea to bring back the predictions thread that David used to run every pre-season. To keep it simple the four senior leagues, scottish cup and league cup as well as how each club will do in European competition.

Premiership Winners - Celtic
Championship Winners - Rangers
League One - Dunfermline Athletic
League Two - East Fife
Scottish Cup Winners - Aberdeen
League Cup Winners - Dundee United

Europe:
Celtic - Group Stage (4th place)
Aberdeen - Group Stage (3rd place)
Inverness CT - 3rd Qualifying Round
St Johnstone - 2nd Qualifying Round

Championship - Rangers
League One - Dunfermline
League Two - Clyde
Scottish Cup - Hibernian

Don't really understand how Europe works now as it changes so often.

Europe:
Celtic - CL playoff; Europa League group stage
Aberdeen - EL playoff
Inverness - EL playoff
St. Johnstone - EL playoff

In the lower leagues in particular it seems very early to start making predictions. Most teams don't have their squads together yet.

I'm hedging my bets until the day before the European qualifiers start :D

Still difficult to know how the teams will be next year (one notably omission), so here goes :

PREMIERSHIP WINNERS - Celtic
CHAMPIONSHIP WINNERS - Rangers
LEAGUE ONE - Dunfermline Athletic
LEAGUE TWO - Stirling Albion
SCOTTISH CUP - Celtic
LEAGUE CUP - Celtic
CHALLENGE CUP - Falkirk

In Europe :
CELTIC - Beaten in 2nd Qual Rnd CL
INVERNESS CAL TH - Beaten at first hurdle
ABERDEEN - Through one round, beaten the next
ST JOHNSTONE - As with Aberdeen

I am too far out of it to make any sensible predictions this year, but based on today's gibberings from Bog-brush-heid Doncaster I predict there will be league reconstruction to guarantee The Rangers are in the top division next season.

True, but you know who's in the front of their minds. If it was only Hibs facing a second season in the Championship do you think Doncaster would have said a word about enlarging the top division?

I don't think I'm alone amongst a broad base of various club supporters that would like to see a sixteen club top division, maybe not for the reason Doncaster would want, but for the overall benefit of professional football in Scotland and I don't think by adding Falkirk or Queen of the South into the mix , going on last seasons results would have been easy beats for anyone . My concern with a 16 club top league is for the 4 or 5 other full time teams such as Raith, Dunfermline and Morton etc is giving them a platform to play that helps them maintain their full time status .

I agree with you on a larger league too. From the point of view of the full time teams excluded it does have the advantage that with 16 teams in the top league you can have a straight 2 up 2 down system which increases the opportunities for promotion.
