Jim McFadzean RIP

Post by Snuff » Tue Mar 01, 2016 7:44 am

I have just completed obituaries on the late Jim McFadzean, who won Scottish League Championship medals with Hearts in 1960 and Kilmarnock in 1965.

Jim scored on of the goals in Killie's 5-1 second leg win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the 1964-65 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, as Killie, having lost the first leg in Germany 0-3, then went behind in the second leg at Rugby Park, before coming through to win the tie 5-4 on aggregate.

I never knew, until I was researching the obituary, that he had been a Rangers Youth player, but was released to sign for Hearts. Ronnie Hamilton, who scored twice in that win over Eintracht was a life-long friend of Jim's and, he was telling me it was his (Ronnie's) father who drove Jim through to Tynecastle to sign for Hearts.

It's a small world fitba in Ayrshire.
