Ireland v Scotland 20th March 1886

Post by Gabe » Mon May 16, 2016 7:35 pm

Searching in the past matches to update my archive after the post of Andy about Hugh Wilson, I have found
on the website of Londonhearts here :

http://www.londonhearts.com/scores/imag ... 032003.htm

a strange club for the keeper of the Scottish line up James Connor.

I haven't understood the name.

All the websites have Airdrieonians.

What do you think about it ? Can you help me ?

Thanks a lot

This'll be a typo. These tend to crop up in old reports now and then.

Worth adding Lorettonians are FPs of Loretto School, Musselburgh.

Didn't someone here once spot Airdrie listed in a Spanish newspaper as "Ayr Draconians" or similar?

I would say this was a definite typo. Loretto being such a small school, and a rugby-playing one at that, does not have an active FP sports team. One or two Scottish rugby internationalists have their club listed as "Fettesians-Lorettonians", rather than just Lorettonians and to this day there is still a strong connection between Fettes and Loretto when it comes to former pupils.

In any case, in such books as the Douglas Lamming "Who's Who", Connor gets a good lengthy mention as the first Airdrieonians internationalist.
