How many Smith's

Post by smith » Sat Aug 19, 2006 6:45 pm

Listening to Radio Scotland today one of the commentators mentioned there were too many Smith's playing today, 3 in total in the St. Mirren v Aberdeen match, this is one for the stats, can anyone tell me the highest number of Smith's that have played together in one match in recent times, ie post war.

Can't say for certain but in the late Sixties Rangers fielded both Alex Smith & Dave Smith regularly. Aberdeen had Jimmy Smith, Dundee United had Doug Smith but it was possibly too early for Walter.

The Smiths of Rangers must have played against two Flemings at Hearts, two Thomsons at Hearts, two McCallums at Motherwell, two Millars at Dundee United, two Camerons at Dundee United, two Buchans at Aberdeen, two Wilsons at Dundee, two Callaghans at Dunfermline and two McLeans at both Kilmarnock and Dundee during this period

How many Gordon Wallaces, Gary Stevenses, Ian Fergusons over the years?
