1974/75 & 1975/76 League Cup Results

Post by Footballfan247 » Wed Nov 15, 2006 11:09 am

There seems to be a bit of confusion over some results that I've researched in these 2 competitions and I wondered if anyone could help clear the matters up?

For the 1974/75 Sections I found teh following scores:-
Arbroath 3 3 Dumbarton
Arbroath 4 0 Partick Thistle
Arbroath 2 0 Clyde
Clyde 2 1 Arbroath
Clyde 2 2 Partick Thistle
Clyde 1 1 Dumbarton
Dumbarton 3 1 Partick Thistle
Dumbarton 2 3 Clyde
Dumbarton 0 2 Arbroath
Partick Thistle 3 1 Clyde
Partick Thistle 1 2 Dumbarton
Partick Thistle 2 0 Arbroath

These results however would see Arbroath on 7pts, Clyde & Dumbarton on 6pts and Partick Thistle on 5pts yet Partick were he team that went onto the Quarter Finals?

In the 1975/76 Quarter Final I found that Hibs beat Montrose 2-0 at Easter Road then Montrose beat Hibs 3-1 in the return AET. The same source also indicated that Montrose went through 3-2 on agg???? :?

Hi there and welcome to the Forum. On Aug 10th 1975 Partick Thistle beat Arbroath 4-0 at Firhill and on Aug 28th the Jags won 2-0 at Gayfield. They won the section with seven points and Arbroath were bottom with five. All your other scores for this section are correct.

In 1975-76 the first leg score was Hibs 1 Montrose 0. Second leg details are as you stated.

Yes it was a compliment! And wear that anorak with pride (like me!).

Got another League Cup query for you all.....

In season 1978/79 Raith Rovers and Queen's Park met in the Second Round. All I can find is that both teams won their home fixture 4-2 producing a 6-6 aggregate but I have no idea why QP and not RR went through. I assume pens but then scores could be wrong?

Can anyone help?
Thanks.

It was on penalties but it was Raith Rovers who went through to the next round
