Celtic v ManU: Actual crowd?

Post by Matt » Thu Nov 23, 2006 10:13 am

The official crowd for the Celtic-ManU CL game is given as 60,632 which would be a record for the "new" Celtic Park.

The club website puts Parkhead's capacity at 60,832 (exactly 200 more than the above crowd...) but based on the latest League Review it is actually slightly short of that. Also it was apparent on TV that quite a number of seats were screened off for safety reasons. Consequently and like many other grounds Parkhead never comes to within a few hundred of their official all-seater capacity despite enough sell-outs in the past.

I therefore wonder whether anyone has another number than the above-mentioned 60,632?

The official attendance was 59,197.

This was the figure confirmed to UEFA by the club.

I don't know where the higher figure came from, but it is clearly unrealistic given the loss of seats for segregation.

My guess is that they've said it was 'sold out' or a 'full capacity' crowd and somewhere along the line some typo has turned 60,832 into 60,632. Must admit my eyebrowds raised a millimetre or so when I saw this crowd. 59,197 is much more like it.

Last night's Thistle v Clyde game was given as 3,000 by several sources and 2,752 by others. In these circumstances I always opt for the latter.
