Time between trophies

Post by Scottish » Tue Aug 09, 2005 5:15 pm

Not strictly speaking an SFAQ but a look at the period between winning major trophies. It appears the easiest to win is the THIRD one. Sixteen clubs have won at least three trophies and TEN have done so within a year of winning their second. Only Killie and St Mirren have taken longer than three years to go from second to third and both these clubs have lost a major final within three years of winning their second trophy.

Years since foundation when clubs won their first major trophy followed by years when first major trophy won

Rangers drew level with Celtic on 31 trophies each in 1935. By 1939 they were level on 34 each. Rangers pulled ahead in 1946-47 and have never trailed since, leading by 106-84 at the end of 2004-05.

(I hope I've added it all up correctly. Please point out any errors or omissions.)
