Oldest Scotland player

Post by ScottishFA » Mon Jul 30, 2007 11:47 am

Any ideas who was the oldest ever Scotland international player in an outfield position?

David Weir is now 37 and still playing regularly, and off the top of my head I can't think of any other outfield player who featured for Scotland beyond that age.

Goalkeepers are different, of course: Jim Leighton was 40 when he won his 91st cap against Estonia. And Ronnie Simpson's last appearance as goalkeeper - having made his debut at 36! - was in November 1968, three weeks after his 38th birthday.

Celtic inside left Jimmy McMenemy was 39 years 203 days when he made his final international appearance vs. Ireland @ Celtic Park on 13th March 1920. Alan Morton, Rangers` outside left, was 39 years & 14 days when he won his 31st & last "cap" vs. France @ Stade Colombes on 8th May 1932.
